My 13 has 57k miles, a bm3 stage 1 tune, and no apparent issues at all. The dealer is adamant that she's solid as hell, and I didn't even buy it from them. No warranty. STILL might do it. The dread noted by several others upon discovering that its a possible catastrophe waiting to happen shortly AFTER buying it has subsided somewhat, but the worry is still there. And my tune will exclude me from any settlement extensions. About to just cough up the cash lol. I drive hard.
It’s normal to have a bit of play on the chain at cold start that goes away once warmed up. Mine does that too and I had the timing chain and guides replaced with the upgraded parts under warranty. It’s the dreaded whining sound that gives away the pending failure.

bye bye bmw

Just sold my X1 (N20 powered) and got myself a Lexus GX460, end of my headache. Yes, it is not a nimble car but comfort, quality, reliability and value retention is way ahead of BMW. NO more modern BMWs for me, I will keep my pristine E30 318is to have fun on the weekends. BMW has definitely lost its way...

In my city, the Lexus dealership is right next to the BMW dealership. I figured it was a very strategic location. Probably captures the stream of dissatisfied customers.
After one of my service visits, even I stormed across after my dealership experience to check out the Lexuses lol.

Def understand this sentiment. Lexus does make pretty good vehicles and their SUVs are pretty good. But I could never get into their sedan line up... checked out IS but it was WAY too tiny and their infotainment was... heh. But their reliability is definitely something to desire. My girlfriend had a 2011 Lexus is250 that the mechanic she gets it serviced at forgot to put an oil filter in after an oil change and she drove it for like 3-4 months and upon full diagnostic, no issues were found lol.

If it were not a Lexus and a BMW...

I’ve noticed that FCP Euro has increased their TC/guide kits for the n20/26. Earlier this year it was around $570 IIRC. Two months ago it went up to around $650 but now it’s over $700. Covid and/or demand for the kits?

It's at $615. I checked a few hours ago, price went down

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...-11318648732kt

I already have a new VCG at home so it will save me $38 off that price, but I will gain it back with the three bolts for the chain guide and the camshaft hub ring or whatever it is.

IF the trail happens next week. Would they settle it that day or just keep it going?

Who knows. It is circumstantial at the end of the day.

However, the judge has ordered the final hearing on July 14 and has extended this far. So when this hearing does happen, it should be the final hearing and an outcome should be agreed upon between the two parties. the paper would be signed in the court room that day. So we would know immediately from those present, or later on in PACER or in the media.

PACER usually has the documents posted the same day depending on the trial time of day. Have not seen it take more than 24 hours yet.

Oh it's not good, if you are over 8 years or 100,000 miles its 0%... in addition, this would not take effect to nearly February of 2021.

My car has 101,000 miles of course...

Here is a link to the preliminary settlement... www.sjbender.com/72.zip

Well isn't that great...

My car is a 2013 but 09/12 production. I'm at 93,400 miles so I'm done next week.

Btw, how do you go from 40% to NOTHING in the 90-100k range to over 100k smh

Looks like I get rid of mine sometime between now and July of next year then. I'm nowhere close on the miles, but will hit 8 years by then.

This is clearly a case of the lawyers making out like bandits and the consumer getting screwed. In all a complete waste of time

I'm pissed, trash settlement.
If I'm reading this right- document 72-1, pages 13, 14 etc. suggest that if you weren't covered before, you aren't covered now either since the previous lawsuit was 7 years/70k and the new one, being like 3 years afterwards, covers 8 years/100k, whichever comes first.

They bought themselves enough time to exclude an additional ~3 years worth of cars. How are you just allowed to roll a case on and on and then provide an increase that's smaller than the time the litigation took?

I was out of 7/70k having just had my 2013 X3 with 72k miles blow, and will continue to be with 8/100k.

All this fuss and time to gain one year benefit, but only if you drive less than 12000 miles/year.
If that doesn't mean BMW doesn't care about customers, I don't know what more people need to see.
BMW believes their engines can break after 8 years, and the loss is at customer onus. For sure they have good lawyers.
Good luck for us with "our time bomb"... and hopefully we don't loose our engines while driving full speed with a semi in our tail.

I know others understandably wouldn't have liked it, but I could have accepted the 100K limit if it the buckets for sliding coverage were 8/80K, 9/90K and 10/100K

Capping the time at 8 years makes no sense to me, as this really should be tied to mileage.

Another BMW was high on my list for our next car, but not if this is how they value their customers. Clearly all they care about these days is selling into China.
