Transporting babies abroad!

I'm currently on holiday and have an 8 month old baby with me (my son)
We are in Tenerife and decide just to get a taxi from the airport.... So we go to the main taxi desk at the airport and ask if they can arrange a taxi with a baby/child seat as when my gf booked the holiday was told or lead to believe this is all we would need to do.... Much to our surprise and shock we were told they don't have any and none of the taxis do so had to enter the taxi to get to the hotel as it was late, the boy was both tired and hungry... And it had been a long day so felt we never really had much option.
We sorts the wee man on the seat, seatbelt on over his lap and under his arm and I held the seatbelt tight enough to hold him but not hurt him and I didn't want to just stick him on my lap.
Crazy lady taxi driver gets on to the motorway and decides to travel at about 90! 140km/h on the speed.
Just wondered if anyone else has encountered anything like this whilst abroad and wonder what the laws are when it comes to things like this?
I was actually shitting myself in fear that we were going to have an accident.

We always take our own car seat when we go on holiday. It's another piece of luggage to haul but cest la vie. Airlines like easyJet allow two pieces of baby equipment free of charge.

Wish we'd have known this, I'll know in future.
Its a Jet2 holiday and we were led to believe it would have been dealt with.
I was raging but no point in getting stressed out over it as we are on holiday to relax after all

Sounds like you got let down there Steve a bit, sorry to hear. I'm there in 6 weeks now!

Not your life stage but for the next make sure you invest in an inflatable booster seat. Great international, cuts the bulk when travelling and keeps you self sufficient. Ask if not out in the car for a day....fun in the pool too!

What's the temp like?

Yep, 2 free bits of gear with children, pushchair and car seat (always take your own as we found out before that rental companies charge a mint for them and they are pretty shit)

Only arrived yesterday but was 26c.
We are staying in Bitacora, Last Americas
Didn't know you could get inflatable, surprised the gf didn't either as she has just about every other thing invented for a baby.
We are going to get the hotel to make sure we have something sorted for the journey to the airport bon the way home.
Cheers

Mad to think that people would travel without knowing their baby was secure.

With all of the cases (2 large 2 cabin), changing bag, stroller and the baby I don't think we'd have managed the car seat.... But then again if I'd know this would have happened I'd have managed for sure.

My Mrs wouldn't be happy to the level I don't think we'd get in, seriously especially on a motorway. Short journey everyone's ok with a little compromise, speed and risk rises on the big roads.

Still all years ago for me. New problems like WiFi and strops now.

I'm actually surprised she did to be honest Chris.
If we are in the car wiymth the wee man and I take one hand off the wheel she tells me....' 2 hands on the wheel with our son in the car please'.
I had to say to her ( driver) about the speed, especially when you see all the other maniacs on the road

Never been that late in the year. We normally go in February and August but are trying October this year as well for a cheeky week. Will be interesting to compare to February as we have known feb to be quite cold (by comparison) some years.

Anyway, sorry for the thread-jack!

We go to the sister hotel in Los Cristianos, the Arona Gran. The Springs group is usually pretty good, don't forget to get the Springs card if you already haven't for 15% off everything.

We've been 5 times in November, usually go second week. It's around 25, some years we've had sunshine all week and others have been overcast all week. Although, still warm.

No Blackpool for me.... Last time I was there I came back to find one of my old cars with a nice big dent and scrape up the side of it.
We try and get away twice a year and regularly to Tenerife.
First time with a baby though but definitely won't be the last. Just be a bit more prepared.
I'm sure they didn't start fitting seatbelts in the rear of cars in the UK until 1984 or something.
Kids were allowed to sit on the roof racks as you drove too I think haha.
We are getting 29c today so not all bad

We have a spare car seat and fold away stroller purely for travel, ones that can get bashed around and not be an issue. At least you know for next time.
