Greetings,
I'm having an issue with my ZF8HP on my 320ED for which the root cause can't be identified by local dealer. Please see video here: In this video the doors are open and the sound made by shock can also be heard. Shock occurs when stationary and switching from D or R to P. This does NOT happen while driving. Gearbox ZF8HP has been COMPLETLY REPLACED (including oil change and gearbox values reset) with a new one by local BMW dealer but shock problem is still present. Please share thoughts and solutions. Thanks! |

could be a bit of play somewhere in the drive shaft, one of your guibo's mabe,
when going into D its taking up slack if you know what i mean, but i would have thought they would check things like this when swapping out gearbox, just an idea! |

Do you happen to know any youtube videos for this transmission giubo ? As I am not an expert, I am trying to provide local dealer some ideas. Additonally, someone recommended changing the battery as this was the solution for him to solve a similar issue. Is it possible ? |

Thanks! Found it. Readaptations have been made by dealer. Do you think the battery could also be root cause ?

My car is at the local dealer now for another investigation. Yes, I also have mounts on my purchase list. There is also a clunk noise, like metal hitting metal. |

Yes. As dealer BMW said and also written in the invoice the gearbox (including mechatronic, convertor, egs module) and OIL have been replaced. I also saw the old replaced gearbox but they did not let me take the serial number part. I hope it is not a scam... it's an official BMW dealer, the biggest in Bucharest: Automobile Bavaria Baneasa.

Mounts changed and no difference in the jolt
I think it is more in the actual gearbox itself. My car is at 150k and it's done it for the last 50k, it will go for gearbox service again in 10k miles I'll update then. |

Yes, exactly the same.
Worse if going from reverse into park It sounds like solenoids aren't being damped in my very uneducated opinion. I will tolerate and live with it until I change the car. |

I talked with the dealer today and they said that it can be a "bad consumer" on the electrical side... They are trying this approach now. Did you have any electrical problems or weak battery ?

Please keep us posted.
Does it only give you the clunk when your doing it parked up stationary and repeating the d>p>d>p routine? Mine doesn't do it if I've just been driving and come to a stop. If I then continue to cycle from drive to park it will then make the exact same clunk. Tbh I'm not too bothered by it as it only happens when I stop... I leave auto hold on when I lock the car it engages p by itself |

Yes, while stading still on flat surface doing d-p, d-p, d-p. When pressing P I get huge jerk/jolt/shock (you can see it and hear it in video I posted initially). I also check guibos/flex disks at dealer. They are ok... After 5 months of service at BMW they can't fix it. They said something about calling someone from Germany, but that means at least 2 additional months. Maybe the new software of the gearbox is not working ok with the ECU... Did you check yours at a service ? |
