If you think BMW is naming the 4-series "4" for more $$$ I think you're mistaken. The 3 series is the most popular model for BMW so diverting from that is a big risk and is most likely to adapt their nomenclature for the entire model line so the "big picture" lines up between all of the series. It's no secret that purists have balked at the renaming (especially renaming the iconic M3 to a *gasp* M4) so I highly doubt this is a money grab on BMW's part.

We will adapt to the new naming convention in time though... especially the part where they are renaming the 1-series to the 2-series to make room for the M1?? (guy can dream, can't he?)
I disagree completely. The business case/model was successfully proven by Audi making essentially an A4 coupe an A5 and then charging a premium for it.

This might be an error since its the exact opposite of how they treated Xdrive/MT with the 3 series..

I will say it again: the Lines restrictions are stupid.

If the new X5 will have no Lines restrictions then why the F30/F32 is stuck with this shit?

I'm sure it will be a gorgeous car with lots of gadgets - anyone who gets one wont be disappointed. The N55 is a great engine (most of my complaints on bimmerpost are about the transmission).

I'm still confused as to why we need a 3 series and 4 series and I really don't like the different lines. Ordering my current car was a breeze - I wanted heated seats, nav, and m-sport - done and done. When the F30 came out, for sh*ts and giggles I went to the website to check them out. Spent forever just looking at the comparison chart just to decipher what they meant by a modern line.

Can't say I agree with the direction the company is going in, but at the end of the day, I still enjoy being a BMW owner and would consider one before looking at another brand. It's an expensive addiction!

Full LED lights -- Are the brake lights also going to be LEDs or are we still going to have to wait for the LCI to be equipped with those ? The standard brake light bulb looks extremely outdated in my opinion.

Actually, it has been discussed on here for years that BMW is following Audi's business case by renaming the coupe version of the same car. Audi created the A5 (two door version of the A4) only to charge a premium because people "perceive" an A5 as higher than a A4 when they're essentially the same car.

I really didn't care either way what it's called but I did expect a little more premium feel from a car that I know will be quite a bit more expensive than the outgoing model. I thinking we will be looking at $60-65k for a fully equipped 435i M sport. That's a lot of $$$ for a 435i AKA 335i coupe my friend.

+1, looks a little goofy for the first year once they steered away from the designing cues of the concept. But can't judge from the pics we'll just have to see once they are on the road.

Let me know when your phone can project turn by turn directions into your HUD

BTW, you can use google maps to find a destination and send directly to the car's navigation, you use the BMW Remote App.
Yeah I know about the Remote App, but as I said I prefer the phone itself. With ios 6 the screen turns on automatically when I need to make a turn so I just stick the phone in a cup holder or something and can easily glance at it and have my eyes on the road in two seconds. I find the HUD extremely distracting, but that may just be me.

It seems like a dick move on their part if they give the 4GC the new motor and F32 early adopters are stuck with the N55. I guess it's good news for me, though, since I just got a car and the main reason I thought about waiting for F32 was the rumor of a new motor.

I think this is def a money grab from BMW. The relabeling is pointless and just another way to commercialize their product for people who get fooled by new badges. Someone said it well in the comments before that BMW is taking notes from Audi who basically did the same with the a4 to an a5 labeling so that they can charge a higher premium. I think your average consumer would get insulted if the 3 was still labeled a 3 rather than a 4 and was offered at a price increase with no gain in hp, no navi, and no alarm as standard equipment in a 60grand car.... So lets label it 4 and get away with it. Just my take on it all. At this point sounds like a nicely equipped 435i will be in the same ballpark as the Msrp of an M3.

I agree with both of you. Money + Business Model

Keep in mind. The A5 was a different looking car. The headlights before the refresh were completely different. Every model had its own LED signature look.

Agreed.

For sure, this interior does not belong in a $65-$70,000 car, much less in the $80-$90,000 M4 and M4GC. It is just OK for a $32,000-$40,000 no-option 320i/328i, nothing more.

If the idea was to create a premium Coupe then this ain't.

Can't agree more, these line restrictions are stupid, and take away some of the nice mixing and matching that makes a car unique.

And now I will get on MY soapbox? Why no gray leather option? Why ? Why?

442m might be a nice middle ground between the 400 and 403m.

What do you guys think about adding all these "performance" options/packages to what is essentially just a "sporty compact" (nicer way of saying wannabe sports car )

I think i'm going to throw up when i see the pricing for the 435. The current 335is already start at a whopping 52k.

I assume the new top of the line 4 series coupe will start at around 55k? Which you can easily option to 65k?! That is insane money for an entry level luxury car.

Although I guess BMW slotted the 1 series underneath and moved the 4 series above the 3 seres.... so does that mean the 4 series holds the position the 6 series did 10 years ago?

///M for MONEY!
