I see quite a few F-series x28i on the streets. If you are over 60,000 miles, please do not be shy to report, along with engine problems, if any. ( I am <40K, nothing interesting)

~62k miles, about 22k put on since CPO purchase.
-Only cosmetic mods -Mostly reliable, services done at recommended intervals The bad: -Haven't been able to get service history from BMW for work performed prior to the CPO purchase. -AC blower in dash was clogged when purchased and made horrible noise. Fixed under warranty -Transmission selector shafts seal leaky at ~40k miles. Replaced under warranty. -Spark plugs went bad early and decreased performance noticeably at around 50k miles. Brought in multiple times and various dealers said performance was normal. Replaced plugs at 60k service, discovered they were bad already -Oil filter housing gasket and oil cooler gasket leaking at 60k. Bringing to dealership for CPO warranty work. -Clutch is starting to slip (~61k) during strong highway acceleration and will need replacement very soon. This seems early to me. My last manual I drove ('97 M3) over 100k miles and the clutch was still strong when I sold it. I think the previous owner wore this one down. This is frustrating as a CPO shouldn't need a clutch after 20k miles. Oh well, it's a risk of used cars. Last edited by PappyVR4; 06-06-2016 at 10:28 AM.. |

That's quite a list you've had! And some of those sound way too early! I believe they have redesigned the timing chain and oil filter housings recently though may want to check on the recall for that (plastic parts, what an idea)! About the AC noise... What was it like/where did it come from? I have this squeaky sound coming from my left vent (only) that sounds like mechanical/pump related but no idea what it could be! It only has about 10k miles so far though but on delivery it was covered in yellow pollen dust... and apparently it had the windows open on the truck so the inside was covered as well... may be related? I started hearing it after the battery had been disconnected to weld on my exhaust... very strange!

I plan to bring up the oil filter housing and timing chain when I bring it in for the gasket leaks.
Regarding the AC, it was in the passenger side dash near the window. It sounded like a jet engine when clogged and the AC turned up a couple notches. Apparently the clogging is common. It doesn't sound like your issue though. Overall, I haven't noticed anything really bad. However, with the timing chain, oil filter housing, and turbo seal problems others are having, I would not want to own this car out of warranty. |

I came to dealership before purchasing with VIN#, asked them if I can see car history to make a decision. A guy said "no" as it was privacy issue (papers have owner info in the header). I nicely and smiling mentioned Freedom of Information Act, that lets me get any civil or criminal records from courts with any private info. Front desk guy called manager, and after 3 min nice talk they printed complete car history for me ...

35k and no problems with the car so far. My VCG is starting to sweat on the passenger side a bit, hopefully I can get that covered under warranty.
The only other thing I had was a rear diff leak at the half shaft but that is not engine specific. Oil filter housing and cooler gaskets are bound to go at some point as on most BMWs. |

45k taken out in 2012. No problem to report *knock on wood*.
If it has been well broken in and taken care of, and I mean on an OCD level, the chance of something happening shoudl be VERY small.

60k miles, No major issues at all ( Bought at 51k )
- Changed Plugs - Changed Brakes ( pads / rotors / sensors ) - Installed Active8 Tune ( 55k miles ) - Installed AFE Air Filter & Cabin filter. Car has been great, I do my own work for the most part and has no warranty which is totally fine with me.

2012 that I picked up last year 6/20/15 at 35K miles. I'm literally just at 49,970.
Since I got the car I went in for 1)Driver's side mirror corroded wire. Wires replaced. 2)AC blower motor replacement 3)Clown horn fix. Low and high frequency horn replaced. 4)Door pin rattle. Dealer claims they wrapped the pins in some kind of tape (not visible) but it helped with the looseness. I rather they just replace them with the newer ones but I supposed the cheaper options always wins out. 5)Front and rear Brake pad and rotor replacement. (Pestered them to do this before the free maintenance expired. The need to change was close enough) Here's hoping I got all the niggles out the way.

I thought that FOIA only applies to federal entities, all managers should know that... so he just decided to be nice and to disclose those records for no really good reason?

Pretty much. Though many states have their own FOIA laws, they still only apply to government entities.

Bought new in Sept '15 and currently have almost 28k miles. So far I have had three normal oil changes, a MAF sensor replaced and new spark plugs.
The reason behind the last two is that the car was misfiring in cylinders 2 and 3 under heavy throttle , but only in the rain. The first fix was the MAF because the code said the airflow levels were too high, but it didn't work. The next time there was a new service bulletin about moisture getting in somehow and creating a misfire and the fix was to put in new plugs. The turbo was also checked for damage and it was fine. So far I haven't had any further issues and it has been about 1k miles since the plugs were replaced. Fingers crossed.

Probably so. So I got the records with all the info including prev owner name , address and email. Even contacted him with question why he sold the car and if second key was included (I got with 1 key). Also learned from papers he complained about rust under driver seat ( I would never think to look there), and some other stuff.

Bought my '12 328i in April, put about 3k miles on it and sitting at just under 60k.
Since I've purchased it had these repairs, thankfully all covered under CPO: Timing chain/guide/drive Both hood latches New aluminum OFH Getting ready to go in for updated oil line with check valve for smoking exhaust and possible turbo replacement. Also had new front and rear brake pads & sensors installed as well as new windshield/trim/rain sensor.
