Just to add some variety, I'm running Yoko Advan Sport allseasons- I was going to order Conti DWS's as well but the 225/40/19s were back ordered with no availability date, so I picked what looked like the next best at the sizes I was looking for.

Yoko Advans are not bad. Pretty strong grip, limits of grip very predictable, fairly silent (night and day vs stock Conti RFTs obviously but not sure how it'd compare vs the Conti DWS), and quite a bit cheaper than both Conti DWS and the Michelin A/Ss, I'd recommend it as an alternative.

Yes pretty much all decent tires are out of stock in my size.

Too bad, then, if you're driving an M car with non-RFTs.

The sidewall of the tire was busted because when i hit the pothole the rim bent and that rim metal bending deformed the tire. I think it would've happened with regular tires as well. I remember that morning i hit a pretty deep pothole on the way to work and i guess the tire had enough air to get me to work and then 9 hours later when im done with work all the air had leaked out. I was hasty and didnt check the rim/tire in morning when i got to work as i was already running late.

Funny thing is even though i am complimenting the run flats i may get my next bmw with summer regular tires right from the factory. The runflats offer very little feedback and im looking for a little bit more of that. There is a metal bridge that i cross on the way to work and with the run flats i cant tell which way the wheel is facing when i drive over the metal grates/beams in the bridge. Its quite an interesting feeling to say the least

Be sure to let us know which tire choose when you do buy. I'd love your feedback.

BMW NA likes runflats on their cars because BMW buyers don't want to be bothered by changing a flat. They would rather drive to a shop and pay full boat to replace the tire.

Runflats most definitely do not rule. I can't remember the last time I got a full on flat. If I even get a puncture, the tpms tells me and I address it well before I would need to put on a spare. The compromise to the ride and handling 100% of the time is not worth the convenience to me perhaps .01% of the time.
Agreed. I ditched the run flats on my E90 about 8 years ago, and (fortunately) never found myself stranded.

Yeah I had the same exact problem - I was looking for 235/40/19 front 265/35/19 rears, if I remember correctly there was literally no all season tire with that 235 front and only Michelin PSS offered it (I don't have space for a summer and a winter setup)- so went a tad stretch and did 225/40 and 255/35s on 8.5 and 9.5 rims, and yeah it worked out i think.

Thanks for all the input

After a bunch of research and scratching my head, I finally decided to order the BF Goodrich g-Force COMP-2 A/S ultra high performance all seasons.

Factors:
Great price
Good tread wear rating
Excellent Tirerack survey results
Excellent results in Tirerack test track comparison

Bought them on Costco online. Same price as Tirerack but no shipping charges. $136 per tire plus $15 installation per tire. Not bad.

Also just bought a Slime Tire Repair Kit on Amazon with compressor, slime, and plug strips.

Now I'll be shopping for a doughnut spare that doesn't cost $240. I'll carry it when going on long trips outside normal service areas just in case.

Goodbye runflats. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out

Awesome!

I've said it before, but it's worth repeating. Getting proper tires is one of the best mods you can make to these cars, hands down. I would have even suggest dedicated summers and winters, but I know that can get pricey. At least switching to non-rfts will still transform the car.

Thanks.

To be honest, I used to get high performance summer tires when I had my 540's. After a few years I was tired of having to change them so often (hassle and price since they were staggered) so I opted for high performance all seasons with higher tread wear ratings. For the way I drive the difference in grip is lost on me. The current tire technology is so good that I don't have to give up performance for value for tires that do what I need them to do for the way I drive. If I went to the track maybe I'd have a different view.

I went with the Conti DWS 06, and love them. It's great doing a curve on the PA Turnpike without the car jumping when you hit a bump like I did with RFT's.

I have had one issue with RFT's - In my old E92, I had a blowout when driving about 30 MPH. I think I must have run over a sharp tree branch because that's all I could see. The TPMS system warning popped on after about 30 seconds and I couldn't drive the car after about a minute. Fortunately I was on a very rural road - called AAA, chilled for an hour, and they took me 2 miles to my normal tire shop. Not a big deal.

PS - I suggest AAA Plus - that gives you a longer tow radius. Cheap insurance, IMHO, and is effective on my wife's Honda Civic (non-RFT's come standard - no spare) too.

We have AAA too. I'll check to see if we have Plus. Your Conti DWS were my other choice. It was virtually a coin toss between those and the gforce.

Can't wait to get them installed and try them out.

sygazelle - I had the "original" DWS on my E92, and the DWS06 is definitely better.

In some places like Montreal, Québec the (law abiding people) have summer and winter tires. They have a winter tire law which stipulates that from December 15 to March 15 inclusively, all passenger vehicles registered in Québec, including taxis, must be equipped with winter tires.

The summers are nice but winters are rough and the amount of salt they use in the winter is tough on any vehicle. The streets are horrible with an infinite amount of potholes and RFTs are awful to be riding on there. Ask any BMW dealer there (Mercedes and many others too) how many new wheels they sell because of bent wheel damage and ask them how many RFT they replace. Also, they don't have car inspections so you'll see $500 cars driving next to $500,000 cars and you better have great tires to dodge the horrible drivers.

Take a look at what the streets look like there to understand how crucial the right tires are:

Besides the streets and tires, Montreal is a beautiful city. I don't want anyone to feel that I am bashing the city so here are a some more positive pics:

No need to sell me on Montreal. Grew up partly in upstate NY and have made many trips up there. Absolutely beautiful city. Here in NYC, on the other hand, it's a sh*thole.

IMHO Montreal is more like a big town with a multicultural flair and it certainly has its charm and history. I suppose the difference lies in where you live in Montreal (Summit Park, Westmount vs Hochelaga) and where you live in NYC (Billionaires Row vs Theater District) . Some places in Montreal feel like you're in a different country, and the same can be said about NYC. I love them both.

Switching out my run flats to Michelin super sports this week. Will this get rid of some of the steering wheel shake I get on rough roads with the run flats?? Almost feels like my tires are not balanced but I had it checked out and they were

Except for the whole price and tread wear thing. For instance pilot super sports would be an utter and complete waste of tire and money for my daily commute. Since the OP is considering all seasons, I am thinking we share similar values

If someone is interested in a set of 225/45R18 Contipro's RFT all seasons with about 6k on them (following ED and PCD), I will have them for sale shortly. As soon as I finally bring the 340 home, non RFT MPSS's will be mounted and the hunt for a new set of rims with Blizzak's is on. Too old for half measures.

Already stocked up on a spare, jack, tire plug kit and an air compressor. Rarely will I need the trunk space that it will take up and if I do feel the urge for a full-fledged luggage-rich road trip the roof box will hopefully do the trick.
