Downshift Rev Match
Hello! Does anyone know how to turn off rev-matching on a 6-speed 340i? I have found that if I press the traction control button for 5 seconds it turns off rev-matching when I downshift and traction control, which is fun, but I just want to turn off rev-matching. Any thoughts?
Thanks! |

Note that your car will start without the clutch being depressed. Some say rev match is also disabled if you disable dsc (press and hold for a few seconds) but I personally haven't tried this. |

Thanks! I was hoping for a more readily available way to turn it on and off. Confirmed the DSC will also do it, as I mentioned initially, but not the solution I was hoping for.

Have you tried the coding option? If so, any issues?

All F3x manual cars have a gear position sensor. With how electronic everything is these days, I'm almost positive it's technically possible through just software, but I don't think anyone has found a way.

I hate the rev matching feature... I've been driving a stick for 40 years now, thank you very much BMW. I don't like the idea of disabling clutch start feature, that sounds kinda dangerous. [I'm also not going to mess with coding during full factory/CPO warranty period] :/

I've tried coding it out and have not found the right codes. When I disable clutch at start of it bricks the car

In any case, it'd be important to let a shop know what you've done so someone doesn't accidentally start the car and have it run into someone. Found this: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...8&postcount=89

I'm not sure how you start your car, but every manual I've driven, it goes like this : CLUTCH, key into ignition, brake, turn key. Yes weird to fumble the key in in-between, but I'm usually sliding in and doing all 3 at pretty much the same time. |

Exactly, so why would you ever need to tell someone how to start your car if it's a standard process.... or why would you think the emergency brake isn't on when parked? Since both of those things will keep the car from moving when turned over

You make a good point, but I'll just say that I bet many mechanics can't drive a manual, and some are idiots...same as in the greater population.

I never tried replacing the clutch pedal with brake at start. Going to try it. With coding won't start with or wo clutch pedal

This is interesting to me because this seems to indicate that many of you don't leave the car in gear when parked?
I certainly do, as a fail safe behind the e-cable. I once left my previous GTI on a mild incline and hadn't realised I didn't pull the e brake hard enough. Came out to find it had gently rolled into my ex's car at the bottom of the incline. |

The experienced master mechanic, or the apprentice who probably have driven a manual car twice in his life? It maybe natural to you, but someone who drive an auto regularly won't have the habit to clutch in and shift into neutral before starting a car. |

So I found a couple ways to get around rev-matching (2018 340i Xdrive)
1 - Put clutch in, take out of gear, then jiggle the shifter left-right a few times before selecting lower gear. For example, for a 3-2 downshift: Clutch in, move gearshift from 3 to neutral and then jiggle it between the 1-2 track and the 3-4 track. The rev matching will hunt a bit but then give up, presumably confused as to your intent. 2 - Pull the shifter out of gear without using the clutch. I assume this is not recommended as a regular action, although it will pull out easily if you've matched the revs to the current speed. If I do this, the rev matching does not happen at all.
