Need some help. I leased a car before but had no clue what I was doing. This time I have about 75% of a clue.
340i MSport. Sitting on the lot. MSRP: 58295 Sell Price: 54695 Rebate: 1500 Cap Cost: 50530.79 RV: 58% ($33811.10) MF: 0.00155 Higher than what I see here - thoughts? $5k down (includes the equity in my trade which I'm hoping to increase $500-1000) $632/month I'm not completely satisfied with the deal. I know the invoice is 54215, so that's where I want to be - and is the increased money factor alarming? |

Hi guys, new to the forums! I'm in the market for a CPO 3 series (prefer 328i xdrive), and found a couple dealers prices. I am going to list the price on their website, so if you guys could help me with what the proper value should be to be fair for both parties, that would be great. Thanks a lot guys!
Dealer Name/ Location: Chicago Area Year/Model: 2015 328i xDrive MSRP: $Unsure Invoice: $37,995 Options/Packages: Premium Package, Navigation with touchpad and instrument cluster, Cold Weather Package, Driver Assistance package, Walnut Trim. Negotiated Price: $36,995 Other Pertinent Information: Odometer: ~3k miles. Black exterior and interior. Dakota leather, 4 door sedan. I appreciate any help, and if I am missing something just let me know and I will fix it. |

Other than ttl and acquisition, what fees is the dealership charging? In calculating this monthly payment, is the rebate applied to the sales price or to do cash due at signing? Make sure it is applied somewhere. What is the cash due at signing anyway? With good credit you should get a money factor of .00135; that's about $650 less over the term of the lease. Never use a down payment (or trade-in) to lower the cap cost reduction. Always (if your state allows it, and I think MA does) maximize the MSD's to lower the money factor by .00049 (for 7 MSD's). That is a $1,500 return on investment as you get that money back at the end of the lease. Lastly, use the information and spreadsheet here http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=830104 to figure out the details. A rough calculation shows $700 monthly with max MSD's and 7,2K-1,5k (rebate)=$5,700 due at signing to which you can apply your trade-in, and at the end of the lease you will be returned your $5,600 in security deposits. Stripping your trade-in/down payment out of the equation for clarity, based on the $632 you would be looking at $779 a month with about 1K due at signing (after rebate) of which you will get the 1-month security deposit of $800 back. Over the term that is 779*36+1,000-$800= $28,244. You should be closer to $700*36+$5,700-$5,600= $25,300. A.k.a., not knowing the dealer fees included in the $632 monthly, I'd say you're about $3,000 away from a good lease. |

Based on the information you supply, edmunds.com has dealer retail at just over 40K. So it appears that you'd have a pretty good deal at 37K. This kind of discrepancy might lead me to think I miscalculated something, or something might not be up to snuff with the car (CPO'd or not). Either way, whenever I buy a used car I take it to a trusted mechanic who takes a fine comb through the whole car. It will cost a couple of hundred, but potentially well worth the investment, especially if it's a crap investment you manage to get away from. |

Carfax doesn't necessarily show everything. Claims that went through an insurer should be on there, but not all shops report repair and maintenance records. A clean carfax is helpful, but I'd still prefer to have third eyes on it.

You can ask the dealer, but these loyalty (or new owner) type incentives are usually advertised by BMW and come from the manufacturer. I haven't seen them with BMW often, but for example Audi always seems to have some (and of course VW, fighting to keep their customers).

Signed off last night:
2016 340i MSport, Driver Assistance, Nav, Cold Weather, Lighting. MSRP: 57895 Sell Price: 53980 invoice is 53755 according to Edmunds. Rebate: 2500 (1500 lease incentive, 1000 BMW loyalty. Trade in was financed with BMWFS) Cap Cost: 52904.59 RV: 58% ($33811.10) MF: 0.00086 (using 7 MSDs) Cash due $1088.74 out of my trade in plus MSDs. The deal includes installation of Premium Shield paint protection at a cost of $650. They lowered the sell price of the car $20 because I refused to pay interest on that $650. $649.40/month I sat down last night and calculated that I have done 16 car purchase negotiations. This was definitely the most effort of them, but we ended up with exactly what we wanted. Can't thank the Bimmerpost community enough for all the information and help available here. |

The three ingredients that are negotiable with a dealer are selling price, dealer fees and money factor. The residual value is set in stone by BMW each month, and for a 328i 10k/3yrs it currently is 61%. You should also check if you can use incentives such as college, military, loyalty etc. At the very least there is a lease rebate of $1,500. You should ask the dealer for the money factor and dealer fees. Base mf with good credit is .00135. Also, you should not put any money down to reduce the cap cost. Instead, use cash to get max MSD's to reduce the money factor by .00049; you will get the multiple security deposits back at the end of the lease. It is a good investment because it will save you about $1,500 over 3 years. An example of a better deal: selling price of $38,350 ($975 under invoice, which is very good), doc fee of $75, acquisition fee $925, 7.5% CA tax (?), mf of .00086 (with 7 MSD's) and a rebate of $1,500 you're looking at $411/mo+tax with $5,100-$1,500 (rebate)= $3,600 due at signing. At the end of the lease you will get that $3,600 back. You will be $411*36= $14,796+tax out of pocket for the lease. With your deal you're looking at $396*36+$3,500-$450 (return one security deposit)= $17,306+tax. Now, it might be that the dealer has lowered the selling price and marked up the mf in this deal. If you can get the same selling price (and not a crazy dealer fee), base money factor (reduced with MSD's) and a rebate you would have a great deal. |

MSRP: 60195 (pretty much everything but led lights)
Sell Price: 55812.35 Rebate: 1500 (lease credit) + 500 (usaa) + 1000 (owner loyalty) Total: 52812.35 MF: 0.00135 RESIDUAL: 60% I think the price is good (based off edmunds), but I'm ordering the car and worried about the owner loyalty expiring before I take delivery and that can't be locked. My other issue is that I have a '13 335xi whose lease is up in July and was planning on pulling ahead, but that might not be there as well. Any thoughts on how likely the pull ahead and owner loyalty will still be there in two months when my ordered car gets in? |

Hey guys,
Another newbie here looking for advice/opinions, very very excited for my first BMW Going to order my car at the end of the month to lock in the March incentives (either 0.9% APR or $1500 lease credit), I am not sure yet if I want to lease or finance. Sales guy says I can choose when I sign for the car and still have both options locked in. 2016 320i xDrive Sedan Total MSRP (after Destination & Handling): $40,840 Sales Price (before incentives): $38,853 and he says they will not budge on this price Options: Sport Package, Glacier Silver paint, Lighting Package, Heated Front Seats, Power Front Seats, Drivers Assistance Package Basically, is $38,853 before incentives a fair sales price? He is giving me a shade under $2k off MSRP on a custom order. Thanks guys Sammy

I'll assume buying. I think getting at invoice or 8% off MSRP shouldn't be difficult at all, before incentives. That means you should be closer to $37,800. I'm not sure "won't budge" means. Simply tell them you're no longer interested and wait a few days, or even try another dealership in the meantime. |
