F30 Scratch Repair

Today, while parked at school, my 2016 Black Sapphire F30 got keyed. I got an estimate from the body shop for $600 but that seems really high to me. What do y’all think?

It doesn't matter what we think as we're not gonna be the ones who you choose to fix it. If you're dissatisfied with that estimate, then call around and get other ones

There's a lot more on that estimate than paint repair.

Looks like a quote from a BMW collision center, but I can't read it.

Price seems about right to fix it correctly. It'll be a lot cheaper if you call around.

You could also DIY, but even that takes a lot of skill to do it right. I did my 2013, and nobody could tell that I repaired about 20 paint chips and a deep scratch on the trunk. I will say nothing else, as I'm not a tutor on this stuff.

Is it dented or just scratched? I'f no dent I'd go to a professional detail shop and try a scratch repair <$100 and see if I could live with it.

This is going to sound crazy. But are you going to a community college? I'm going back to community college for auto repair classes. Our instructor encourages us to bring in our cars for live work. Maybe check with your local community college's auto program to see if they need a car to work on. They might be able to give you a better quote or point you at a better direction.

I wish I knew. I'm thinking of getting the BMW Advanced Car Eye 2.0 in case they try to do it again.

No dent, just a scratch. I got three different stories: 1. Campus Safety tried to convince me something rubbed up against the car, but the scratch is too deep for that; 2. Century BMW immediately said "OMG someone keyed you car!!" and I had 5 service advisors around it like they've never seen a scratch before; 3. Spartanburg PD tried to convince me that someone slammed their door into it, but there's no dent

For 30+ years my dad ran big body shops (20+ bays) in AZ and CA. They were direct repair shops for Mercedes, BMW and other luxury brands. He was also a painter for 10 years. He said to do the job right $500-600 is what a quality shop would charge.

My friend got his door painted for $200 and you could tell from 10ft away, fisheyes, bad color match and even a few runs in the clear coat. Do it right the first time and ask see some of their work.

If you feel like DIY-ing it, I would follow these videos. It wont be pretty in the end, but you end up with most of the door's paint untouched and factory-original.

So true!!! It will be about $600 to do it RIGHT. All these thrift shop people on here telling you to "call around" to get it done "cheaper" are leading you to go to a "fly by nighter" place to have a half ass job done on it. I would NEVER consider for my luxury car. I don't eat pine cones for lunch!! You are worth more than that!!!!!

Even with some of the better thrift shops, the paint may look good now, but in a couple years it wont. Friend of mine decided to get his entire car painted, only to find out 5-7 years later than it was being rejected and flaking off.

100%. Nothing comes close to a factory paint job.

I would avoid the DIY option. That is in an obvious place and will be hard to repair without it standing out. That quote seems too high. 3.6 hours of body work? 3.5 hours painting? First off it doesn't look like body work is required. I would assume a proper repair will involve some sanding, filling and painting but that shouldn't take close to 7 hours! Shop around!
