opinions

I see some style 397 wheels 18x8 square, brand new take offs (14 miles) with center caps, no TPMS, for $1499 is that a good deal? seller wont budge on price

I understand they're exponentially more at the dealership but that's not a fair comparison haha

Still... you can find 400M for $1200. So for a 397 style wheels maybe $1000 or same. That is just me...for other willing to pay..maybe.

Btw if you need the tpms ... then you have to pay someone to take off wheels and put it back on ($100 labor and tpms)

I personally didn't want the 400m wheels because i don't have a M packaged car, and those wheels have the m badge on them.

i do have tpms on my current wheels but yeah its gonna be like 100 to dismount the tires

Well on eBay they're less than $1500 new shipped for a set. Sets have sold for $500-$700 used on these forums.
Even considering spending that much on those wheels blows my mind, but everyone has their own preferences.

That is just an example. I actually prefer to just go aftermarket wheels, there are so many choices for 18". Example, VMR wheels you can get 18" for $800 set then get some UHP all season or summer tires. (No runflats here, hate them really noisy).

1500 new, with tires, shipped? I honestly think 1000 is fair and willing to buy if anyone in socal has a lead.

The thing about aftermarket is for the 800-1000 range you're usually looking at a replica wheel and i'm really not a fan. I know enkei probably has some wheels in that range but i do want to still keep looking.

Admittedly I had to sell mine quickly, but I sold mine for $600 with nearly new OEM tires. You can definitely find 397 wheels for under $1000 with tires and TPMS if you are patient.

I bought a set of grey 441m staggered wheels with nearly new Bridgestone S001 tires on them for $1000 with TPMS.

Just be patient and look around and you will find a much better deal. $1500 is definitely too much.

Is there any reason you won't go staggered? There are no problems going to staggered wheels on the x-drive cars.

Well that's my main reason (because x-drive) i know there's people who have no problems but i just didn't want to risk it. Also I got a wagon and didn't want that stagger look, i might do it but as of now i'm unsure.

I'm fairly sure that staggered wheels is a factory option for xDrive cars. But you should do what makes you feel comfortable. Also, my opinion is that 397 wheels look great, but since they're so prevalent, they're not very special.

If you can, be patient and someone will be selling their 397 take-offs with good tires.

I'm not looking for anything special, I have the basic 17" 393 style wheels now and yeah, anything is an upgrade for me and i'd be content with it.

I'm actually wanting to go to 18-19" for better mpg, the diesel has very tall gears due to the torque and reducing rpm for it will be fine

I have a 2014 lux line wagon and I am in the same position. I have the 10 spokes and looking to upgrade the wheels to something a little sportier.

I like the 400M, but agree with you on the M sport logo with a non M Sport vehicle is a little tacky.

Have you looked at the 19" 442 or the 401. I am leaning the 401 to give it a little bigger wheel than the 397. The 442 is a little much.

I ended up purchasing 403M, a mint set with new tires for $1600, took them off immediately. They're so heavy my car would constantly down shift and the brakes felt inadequate.

Got myself a new set of 397 take offs, got some non- RFT tires. Dropped about 9lbs per corner vs the stock 17's and got better gearing now.

Good to know! Maybe I will stay the course with the 18"s. Send a pic when you get a chance and if you know of more 397s, let me know!

While 403M wheels look good, the weight - almost 30 lbs per wheel - places 403M wheels at a disadvantage with other choices.

Yeah I love how they looked. But unless I had the M sport package with bigger brakes I just can't run them. The car felt so much more sluggish.

I will stay the course with the 397s! Thank you. Let me know if you spot a pair for sale. Any tricks on keeping your metal trim clean on that wagon. Looks great.

I've never done anything to it. Just wash the car regularly.
