Methanol iat on stock intercooler
Anyone running their cars on methanol with a stock intercooler; I'm about to pull the trigger on meth and wanna log with a stock intercooler and see if an intercooler is even necessary at my stage, anyone here doing this? A lot of talk on other groups saying meth keeps iats down just as well as an intercooler would; just curious.

But really, just get an IC, even if you are spraying meth. Even if meth can provide cooling and octane, its not like you need only one or the other, you can benefit from an IC and meth at the same time. Interested to see the results of your experiment though if you try it. I don't recall IATs as logged reflecting a big decrease from meth spray though in the logs i remember looking at, probably due to sensor location. |

I plan on doing an intercooler without a doubt, I was just curious if anyone had ran meth on a stock cooler, I just wanted to see where iat was at, I wanted to see just how much meth plays a part on cooling based on stock cooler and larger cooler, I'm not skipping one for another but If meth kept temps where I want them I was going wait a little bit on the cooler.

All i would add is that with only a $40 difference, i would just get the VRSF race, if you are going to go with VRSF in the first place. In hindsight i would have definitely done that. This will mean you should have no reliance on meth for IAT control and you won't feel like you "need" it.

There is on person who runs Meth plus the Race, and his IAT's were rock solid except for a one day over 120F lol. Thread here: https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1489198 Relevant post on his IATs on post 102 and I followed up with some questions right after.

I don't have a stock intercooler, I have the VRSF 5" street, but I do have meth and have run varying levels of boost. May help with your question regarding IATs. Meth ratio is 70% meth to water.
See logs below: Stock turbo 17psi no meth: https://datazap.me/u/435gc/log-16136...log=0&data=1-4 Stock turbo 18 psi with meth: https://datazap.me/u/435gc/log-16136...log=0&data=1-4 Stock turbo 21 psi with meth: https://datazap.me/u/435gc/log-16136...log=0&data=1-4 PS2 23 psi with meth: https://datazap.me/u/435gc/log-16136...log=0&data=1-4

I use the JB4 with the BMS backend flash via MHD. I really like the versatility/customizability of it.
I run 93 octane in the tank. Depending on my mood, I switch between the JB4's progressive boost map developed for meth use, and a custom boost target map that is a little more powerful. The ps2 log above was the progressive map. You can see the boost builds gradually to redline. It makes it feel like an NA car. The custom boost map essentially shoots for max boost as soon as the turbo spools. Power delivery is great. It's just like running e85 essentially with a little more cooling effect, but in my case much more convenient. Plus I only use meth when WOT so it is cheaper as well. It takes me a couple of months to run through a tank of meth. Whereas if I was using e85 I would have to always keep it in the tank even if I am taking advantage of it or not. For me, with the e85 station 20 miles away, it just wasn't practical.

I don't have e85 around me, while I'm not always ripping on the car, meth seems to be the most suitable solution for octane and cooling vs ordering drums of E, which I may do when things get more serious for weekend stuff, but Man I appreciate all the help |

Happy to help.
It's so infrequent I have anything of value to add to the forums I am always excited when I do. Any other assist I can provide just ask. I have been through a bunch of getting things dialed in with the turbo and meth. Running rich at first with negative trims, then trims too positive. Getting the correct nozzles...etc. Now things are pretty good with trims right around zero most of the time. If you don't have quick and easy access to e85, I cant recommend meth more. It has been such a great mod for me. It really opened up a lot of possibilities as well as saved me a bunch of cash on other more expensive upgrades that accomplish the same thing.
