How Can I improve timing?

Hello,

I'm looking for some feedback from people that do tuning/engine.N55 2014 54k miles How can I improve timing? Or is my engine isn't good? I have VRSF 5" HD IC, FTP downpipe & lower pipe, GFB BFV, Dinan Spark Coils, NGK 2 step colder spark plugs(.024gap), k&N filter. (AA DP coming tomorrow)
I'm running BM3 Stage 1 93

You can change back to the OEM plugs to start. No need for colder plugs on your tune. Especially not 2 steps colder.

Generally speaking, for best combustion you want the hottest plug that can be safely run, and the widest gap (largest spark). So, oem plug, oem gap.

The “must run colder plug” thing is dying out, but I still see people outside this forum recommending it too often.

What was said above, plus run the 91 map with 93 fuel, or mix 1-3 gallons of E85 per tank

It has nothing to do with plugs unless they need to be replaced. You may just need better fuel. Try the 91 map and see if that's it.

What downpipe do you have?

I currently have stock DP. I will be putting in ACTIVE AUTOWERKE GESI Cat DP tomorrow. I'm going to flash to BM3 Stage 2 MultiMap. I've been using Shell 93.

Just try the 91 map. Most people in the tri-state area use that. The 93 isnt very good based on what we have seen.

I'll try different gas stations. Just quick update, I have the AA catted DP installed(should've done it sooner) and I'm running BM3 Stage 2 Multimap, Map 2(Stage 2 91). It's currently raining so I couldn't do pulls. Butt dyno feels good.

I don't think you can tell much from this log. I'll log once it's dry.

No you can't tell anything from that log. Wait for it to dry up like you said and do a proper log.

No they are not. I didn't know traction would pull timing.

I managed to find E85 at a Sunoco by the airport.

Full tank Sunoco 93 & 1 Gallon E85. Multimap Stage 2(91 Octane map) I couldn't get the RPMs to 6k because I wasn't doing the runs on a fast highway.

It's hard to tell anything from those logs but i dont see to much timing during the short WOT... need better logs though, log only the pull and go higher RPM

I got some logs. I was running Stage 2 Multimap (91 Octane). Traction and DSC off.
I have put in 1 gallon of E85 drove around and put in 2 more gallons of BP 93. Based on these logs I'm thinking of re-gapping the spark plugs from .024 to .022.

Had the same problem with bad timing all you need is a 2-3 of e85 when you fill up with 93.
This are two logs of stage 2 93 first one with no added e85 and the second with 3 gallons of e85 added.

Mixing E85 - all that hassle for running the 93 map... On the 93 map you gain something like 15hp over 91. You genuinely cannot feel the difference

SlumpLord3000 Factory plugs at factory gap. Have you tried? ONLY gap if you have problems with factory gap.
Gapping your plugs will negatively impact performance if not needed.

I do it mostly bc the e85 station is only a couple minutes from my house. But I’m waiting for it to get warmer out in NY before I switch to the stage 2 e30 tune for the summer. Usually add 4-5 gallons of e85 for that tune.

Do you have an up graded HPFP for the e30 tune?

As mentioned previously smaller gap isnt going to help you and can be worse. You should be running stock plugs stock gap. And 1 gallon of E85 into 14.8 gallons of pump gas is close to negligible. You need more if you really want to improve octane.

I tried replacing stock plugs with new OEM Bosch plugs & Bosch ignition coils when I had no cat DP about 2 years ago. I don't have a real 4th gear pull log but but I was getting weird 0.1-0.5 knock indicator. I was thinking it was micro knock. I tried asking the forums but nobody can give me an answer. When I switched to NGK .024 gap, I didn't get them anymore. I recently put in new Dinan ignition coils with longer dwell time. If re-gapping NGK plugs does not work, I'll try stock spark plugs again when I get a chance to work on the car.

I'll try 2 gallons of E85 meanwhile.

.05 knock indicator not even full throttle:

FYI, getting knock at light throttle is normal. So when you say "not even full throttle" i think you are misunderstanding when you should be concerned about knock. At lower throttle and cruise the engine is going to operate closer to the limit of getting knock. It's WOT when knock is bad/dangerous. Going to a smaller gap/colder plug probably just made your combustion worse.
