First BMW
When I was in HS, saw a 1974 BMW at the local mall w/ a $30K sticker. Thought if I could ever buy one, I would have made it. After driving many models of all types of cars over the years, this is my first BMW.

Even with $0 down and the $4k of port installed options? This is my first ever bmw and after being all set on owning I was thrown for a loop at the lease suggestion. Any insight would be helpful.

Is not I don't believe you, but back in the days (1970 till 1978) avg. car cost only $ 4000. For $ 28,000 you can get an air cooled 911 turbo; I'm just saying. Even a BMW 630 CSI only cost $ 24000 in 1978

I never issue a warranty with my memory
Its what I remember. Maybe I was older. Maybe the local dealer was jacking the price. But the 30K number stuck in my head. In the late 60's remember thinking "If only I could make $20K a year, I would have it made" Then in the late 80's a CDR in the Navy told me the same line. He had made it finally with a $80K salary (including flight pay). About the equivalent of the a '69 salary of $20K in his analysis. Everything in perspective and as stated in the title, the warranty on my memory has run out. Unfortunately at this age, no extended ones offered.

With 20k/yr I would just buy it. Unless you can lease it for tax reasons.

Well the m performance parts really stink up the deal, as PPM a and M brakes don't residualize in any meaningful way, and as you point out the mileage eats away at residual. I am leaning towards purchasing but only concern is typical maintenance/ownership cost past 100k extended warranty period. Any experience? Based on my math I would have to spend about $50k to breakeven on a lease over 10 year period (assuming I continue leasing bmw at a similar cost to this). Seems like ownership is a good bet, no?

Depends on a plethora of variables. Long term ownership provides the most utility to you then yes 'buying' makes sense. If having a new car every X years is important to you, then leasing is "better"... Could you post your details in the format from the first post? So we have all of the information at hand to base feedback on. Thanks! |

After we ordered my car my wife wants one and this is what the dealer is giving me for a lease:
Dealer Name/ Location: Century BMW, South Carolina Year/Model: 2013 328i MSRP: $ 47,825 Invoice: $44,800 Options/Packages: Technology Package, Premium, Drivers Assist, Heated Seats Cash Down: $1500 (They say this covers the fees) + $5000 trade in Negotiated Price: $44,800 *Money Factor: 0.00157 **I don't like this and plan on arguing it should be .00127 *Lease term/Miles: 12,000/36 months *Lease Payment: $379 This was done via email but I am not exactly happy with this so far. Please tell me if I am incorrect: 1) The fees seem too high, shouldn't they just be the $725+Doc fee (325)+ First month? They may have been rounding here though 2) We have perfect credit and the difference between .00157 and .00127 seems to be like $20 a month so I don't think I should accept anything other than .00127. Am I being too stubborn? I plan on going by tomorrow to discuss with them so any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Are you using that 5000 trade-in for cap cost reduction aka down payment? If yes, dont do it. Don't put anything DOWN, instead put that money towards 7 multiple security deposits.

So the breakdown is: With down payment we pay: 13644+5250 = 18894 With MSD's we pay 16380 but get the 5250 back at the end so we pay 11130. That seems like too good of a deal to be true... Almost makes me want to change up and lease on my car... |

I got hooked about the same (1974) when my brother bought a used BMW 2002 with the round tail lights. It took 15 years after that before I could afford one. I've been driving 5 series ever since. The current 5er is so big and unattached to the road, I am looking at F30's instead. Congratulations on your first BMW. Drive it until the wheels fall off, sell it to a family member, and go buy another one! |

Also: That MF is way too high. Get that down to what its supposed to be (.00127) Doc fee is way too high as well, again I assume that whoever is "documenting" isn't spending 8 hours to do it. Even if they did they're getting paid $40/hour ($325/8 hours) to do it? ....Get me that job please. |

I'm at the final stage of leasing a 2013 335i build to order and need some advice.
The dealer and I have come to an agreement on terms: Invoice+MACO ($400) +Training ($180) +$500 profit Acquisition fee: $725 base MF: 0.00127 + MSD I think the above is reasonable, but the dealer is refusing to waive the $150 doc fee. Am I getting a good deal already and shouldn't worry too much about the doc fee? Should I ask for extras (winter floor mats) in substitution of the fee or would that be pushing it? There are 4 other dealers around my area and so far this one has the best terms. |

I wouldn't worry too much about that doc fee, other people have paid HUNDREDS more. MACO seems $50 higher than what bmwconfig has but that usually varies by region and your region may just be more. Not a biggie. Option out your car here (Go to configurator at the top) and see what the invoice comes out to be compared to what they gave you. And plug your numbers here to check them against the dealer. Or post them on here using the template on the first page and people can do it for you. Good luck.
