Using Esys 3.23.4 with psdzdata 51.1

1. Connect=>Expert Mode=>Coding=>Read FA=>Save FA
2. Editiors & Viewers=>FA-Editor=>Go to HO-Wort and right click to "Edit", then type (means add) "SPBR" under HO-Wort folder
3. Highlight the FA, "Activate FA" and "Calculate FA" to verify no error is found after adding the SPBR.
4. Check the Vehicle Profile to locate the "aftermarket retrofit" and verify the "SPBR_18_ZOLL_SPORTBRAKE" is added to the folder
5. Write FA to the car. No confirmation window will pop up after saving the FA to the car. So you need to go to next step for verification.
6. Expert Mode=>Coding=>Read FA. You are able to see the SPBR being added to the HO-Wort folder on your car.
7. Read SVT, and locate the "DSC" (File Folder SVT/ECU/DSC), then right click the "DSC" folder and select "Code". Coding would begin immediately.
8. Wait until the coding is finished, and repeat Step 1 to save a copy of the new FA.
9. Unplug the PC from the car. The M-Performance Brake is now enable and enjoy the genuine M-Performance Braking experience.

Does that help? It's all gobbledey gook to me!

Or this?

Yes, you need to have the OBD cable and hook it up with your laptop, and use E-Sys to look under the FA (VO) folder.
Or you can find someone who know E-Sys coding to check it for you.

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=929406
This is what I did.

In the DSC CAFD, look for the following folders to update the rotor size to F: 370mm and R: 345mm

C_Variante_Bremsscheibe_vorne_e change to--> 370mm
C_Variante_Bremsscheibe_hinten_e change to --> 345mm

Then FDL code this values into the DSC.

Yeah I read those, top one is coding it, not touching doing stuff like that yet!

"use E-Sys to look under the FA (VO) folder." Had a look under the FA in all the subdirs but couldn't see anything that said SPBR.

Also from looking at my CAFD coding it looks completely wrong! Wondering if this is why I hate the brake feel so much.........

Did anything ever come of this? Did anyone try coding to improve the brakes?

I'm waiting for a clever person to verify my settings in the other post (they look wrong to me based on the linked threads) and tell me how I find if the spbr is already coded...... Don't want to code anything till I verify its right or wrong!

I've only just seen this thread as I've been off line (Glastonbury then catching up with work). I'm not going out now after a bottle of Malbec to check my car

I clicked through to CA Automotive using the hyperlinks provided by jumperjohn (see discussion "F31 Cleaned & Michelin Shod (we all love pics)") and read the big brake review carried out by Auto Bild : http://www.ca-automotive.co.uk/items..._english-1.pdf

The BBK test was a back-to-back rest of 6 BBK kits fitted to an M3. The Brembo review caught my eye due to the poor performance, particularly "failing pedal" "zero pressure point" and the stopping distances from >200kph were 25M longer than the competition.

Who makes the M Performance brakes for BMW (rhetorical question for many on this forum)...Brembo.

Results :

1st : Stoptech
2nd : Performance Friction
3rd : AP Racing
4th : BMW M3 stock brakes
5th : K Sport
6th : Brembo

Get it looked at this week if you can.... You're my nearest coding expert!

No worries, I've managed to stop for the last 42k miles so I'm sure I'll manage a few more miles!

Hmmm interesting reading. I've always thought the brakes could be stronger. Having driven a few other BMW without the larger brakes, I've never then got back into mine and felt the sort of difference you would have expected.

My car is in the dealers on Friday so I'll ask them to check then :-)

Stronger brakes will mean more brake dust.

I had a look at mine and I don't have this set, but that isn't surprising as this is under "aftermarket retrofit" which ours aren't, they are factory so wouldn't be listed here.

I have no issue with my cars stopping power so I'm not sure I want to try setting them to aftermarket!

If you look at the attached I don't have these options. C_Variante_Bremsscheibe_vorne_e (Front Brake Disc) has no valid values to choose from.
C_Variante_Bremsscheibe_hinten_e (Rear Brake Disc) does have different values to select but none are in mm.

The values may change of course once you VA code the aftermarket performance brakes.

Thanks for looking Richard... It all means nothing to me!

The M performance brakes are the same as the MSport ones except for the colour so you'd hope the settings would be the same.

There is another thread on the U.S. Brakes forum but I don't know how to copy on my phone... Will do it tomorrow from my laptop.

Ah yes that is brake caliper I selected not brake disc. Thanks, I didn't spot that.

I don't see Rear Brake Disc - Bremsscheibe_hinten listed at all but I didn't search for it.

Front brake disc - Bremsscheibe_vorne was just set to initwert with no values I could select.

What was yours then? Do you have factory performance brakes or fitted as part of the PPK kit?

Both my values were together strange yours don't seem to be, maybe esys and psdzdata versions are different?

Yeah I'm not convinced we should be touching the SPBR as that's to do with the aftermarket addition. I imagine it shows up in the list of factory options instead.

That said the factory fit coding looks different in the CAFD.

Anyone with the aftermarket brakes that can look at theirs....?

I'm going to ask my dealer as it has bothered me how 'spongy' the brakes are under little load. I though they would improve after bedding in but with 6k on the clock, no such luck.
When I've had to slam on the anchors, the cars stopping power is fantastic, but it's just when around town etc they seem a little below average considering they are the upgraded M+ ones.

Will report back if the dealer has anything useful to say.
