Replace stolen car key

My mate was targeted again at the weekend for his GTD Golf.

He's already had one stolen and it looks like he has been targeted specifically for his car again. They've lock snapped his back door lock and managed to find his spare key. He had a steering wheel lock on though and they couldn't find the key for that so they where unable to get away in his car.

They ignored all his iPads laptops etc but did pocket some gold jewellery and expensive bags. Happened at 2pm on Saturday when him and his wife where out in her car. Cheeky bastards.

He's slightly freaked out and is sending the car back on Friday to the leasing company. Does anyone know how to quickly replace a VW key presumably without it costing him a fortune?

Having already been burgled, does he still not have an alarm on the house ?

I had my spare key stolen to my first F30 in a house burglary, I contacted the dealership immediately but they wouldn’t do anything without the insurance involvement, they wouldn’t just get a new key as the car was no longer secure, I had to have the locks etc replaced, took about a week.

He needs to get some better locks if they managed to lock snap them. Nasty fuckers though thinking they can just take what isn't theirs, once caught they need branding, utter scum.

On BMW's can the number of keys coded to the car be managed via idrive?

On my old Audi in the menu option i had the number of keys coded and could delete them.

Gutted for your friend though

He's been unlucky because it is a fairly new composite door. The locksmith who has fixed it told him that they have a way of foiling the anti snap barrels now.

I have them on all my doors now, because of reading about the snapping vulnerability on this forum. Sadly most people don't realise how easy it is to do it though.

if you don't have snap proof locks you may as well just leave your door open. also, the rear of a property has to be secured as it's often the point of entry.

As far as I was aware abs 3 star locks have never been broken, 2 star locks can be bypassed if not fitted with appropriate lock shields. This would be the first time I've heared any different.

The mechanical locks would also need to be rekeyed.

Forward this link to your mate - the video showing someone opening a locked door in 9.2 seconds makes for interesting viewing :

Snap-proof locks are essential these days. Ultion and ABS both have sanp-proof ranges. I opted for Ultion.

Garage List
Dirty scum bags are totally brazen these days

Had our house done that way a couple of weeks back again looking for the keys whilst we were on holidays. Took nothing but did come as a gang of 4 armed with a knife (left behind)

I’ve gone with ABS Avocet locks and Hoppe handles to try and deter.

Presumed that they would be fairly secure?

No deterrent due to low police no’s and no real punishment if caught.

Too right it's a low down scummy crime that causes fear and heartache but it just seems the justice system is accepting of it these days and they wonder why they keep doing it.

I'd raise the bar on these crimes, 3 strikes and you're out for life with no chance of parole.

The scum that burgled me were caught and sentenced after a spree of 30 plus burglaries, my burglary was 2014 they got just over 3 years each so will be out now.

They made the national papers with a woeful tale of one family who had their Christmas presents stolen from under the tree, yep that was us

Yes, but as I mentioned earlier in the thread...

I fitted anti snap in my house, anything that makes them think twice about trying is worth a shot though I think.
