OTA Map Updates Timeline (NBT-EVO)

Yes. North America EVO 2018-1 is latest though.

Just thought I'd update, recently received 2017-2-R1 so it appears the system is working correctly. Not really sure why it isn't considered a 2018 update given how far in the year it is, but maybe just a minor change for now (we've had long-term construction on the freeways and new ramps have opened recently).

I updated the complete database to 2018-1 manually about 6 weeks ago and this morning I received the 2018-2 OTA update for the TX region.

I was under the impression that the NBT EVO version only received 2 updates a year. Perhaps not?

Evo for Europe and North America has 4 updates per year.

My '17 F31 built 6/17 has 2017-1. How do I update to 2018-1? Is it free from BMW? I don't think we can do updates OTA in Canada....

Map Types are not interchangeable. You cannot switch from EVO Map type to NEXT Map type. You would have to switch to Europe EVO Map, and for that you need new FSC Enabling Code solution.

OTA updates don’t change the underlying map version number. You’ll see below your current version screen a sub note about the ota update you’ve got.

It’s like a patch, so at some point you still need the main map update. Especially as the OTA will relate to the country you’re in. So if you are in the UK the OTA will update your UK map but not the European part.
