We flew with Emirates, 3 days at Al Maha Resort which is peaceful and relaxing then One&Only at the Palm for when we wanted to explore a bit more. Both hotels I couldn't fault.
If was part of our honeymoon and the perfect way to recover from a couple of weeks in India!! |

Grosvenor House is fantastic, have been a few times. Make sure you are in tower two for the exec lounge and slightly nicer Premium rooms and suites. One of my favourite hotels in the world and a constant parade of super cars.

Another thing is depending when in September it's going to be very humid, if anyone has been out to the gulf in August / September they will know what I mean. |

It depends on what they want out of their stay. If it's mainly sun and sea then somewhere on the palm is probably the best bet. Fairmont, Sofitel and Atlantis are all lovely although I have just arrived back from the Fairmont and there's a lot of building work going on between the hotel and beach at the moment so you'd need to check when it will be finished before booking it.

Can highly recommend the Taj, stayed at the Luxury Burj View suite for the wife's birthday, it was awesome, excellent view of the fountains and the Burj Kahlifa, best rooms of any hotel we've stayed at

Forgot to mention that premier/tower two rooms booked direct/through Starwood get a free 7-series transfer to and from the airport.

You've got some great hotel recommendations above.
As far as flights are concerned, it depends on whether she's flying Economy, Premium Economy or Business. If Economy, my advice would be to check whether the plane is a 777, and if it is, check to see if it has 10 across seating or 9 across. It makes a huge difference to comfort. Premium Economy is a nice upgrade for a 7 hour flight, but it means she'll be limited to BA or Virgin. Don't rule out flying into Abu Dhabi. It can be cheaper and the taxi ride isn't much longer to some of the Dubai hotels. |

While getting around Dubai is very cheap - a taxi from one end to the other is not usually more than about 60 dirhams (about £12) it can get a bit tiresome if you spend all day ploughing up and down Sheikh Zayed Road. The palm based hotels are all quite a long way from the major shopping malls (if that is your thing - although don't expect to save any money at all).
As for flying to Dubai Emirates only operates the A380 to Heathrow and all classes on those are pretty good to fly in. Etihad fly the A380 to Heathrow from Abu Dhabi, the economy is very similar to Emirates but the business and First are truly something else. Emirates flies a lot to the regions which could be more convienient (and sometime cheaper) although as has been said avoid the B777 if flying in economy with them. British Airways fly depending on the day/time the B777, B787 or B747 on the route. For timings I'd recommend a late evening departure from London (overnight flight) and a mid morning return flight (daylight back). emirates often have very good flight + hotel packages available so will almost certainly work out cheaper. Wherever they go hotel wise make sure they don't end up eating in just the one place (like many do unfortunately). There is a huge selection of really great restaurants all over Dubai (only partnered with hotels if you want alcohol and correspondingly more expensive). If they want to experience the "ex-pat" life then a Friday brunch is not to be missed. |
