Very X5 esque figures which are game changers I think once over 45 miles of pure electric....except in this could be a very different price point. Lets see. Will be interested in pricing and PCP when detailed. Total range 1300km!! Battery 46miles MPG 230+ HP 306 |

I imagie as a Toyota it will be high 40s, as a Lexus in a bit of repackaged body, probably low 60s..... |

I know it's easy to take the negative view, but...
Range always sounds better in km. When you strip out the pure EV range and the calculate to imperial you get 62mpg. My 330d would do that on a steady cruise at 56mph. I don't see 60+mpg being achievable in real world pricing, and very few (any?) people do 1300km in a single steady drive. 1200 of those km would be with a depleted battery which is just dead weight. If it achieves 40mpg combined, real world, I'd be surprised. I'm surprised Toyota (and others) aren't making better use of 45 miles (in this case) of pure EV being sufficient for 82% (or whatever) of daily journeys.

Revisiting this thread as a genuine option for the X2 replacement.
Test driving for a weekend in October soon. If you're ok with the looks and accept apple car play vs the dire built in….it is a great option at 1/2 the pricing and pcp of an X5 45e. TBH I'd forgotten the range was so big. Our use case would be local trips in the week and weekend, this just an overnight charge every 2 or 3 days and for me a 45 mile, mainly motorway trip, to the office in Manchester. I could then charge up in 2.5hrs so might even get away about 1-10 miles of petrol use in the whole week. No home box needed, overnight granny charge would do. CVT most likely noisy AF when pushed but hey ho. Vs the X3 30e the Toyota is Surprisingly Faster 6 vs 6.1 0-60 Longer EV Range 47 v 29 Lighter Loses less/no boot space for the EV version Actually available to test drive and for a weekend to observe change and that EV bit at home Doesn't suffer from a greatly reduced fuel tank this overall range good Usurpingly Not as premium Not as good looking About £250 a month less PCP with all other conditions the same

Next door neighbour has a new one she only picked it up a couple of weeks back, black with black wheels, looks a bit like a jumped up hearse, pretty big though!

Agree with most of what you said, but imho the RAV4 is way better looking than the X3. I'm going to have a look over it shortly, see if I can make the boot work for us.

I don't mind the looks of the new RAV 4 but CVT kills it dead for me. I have a huge aversion to CVTs They may be good from a packaging perspective but IMO a transmission has to be based on meshed gears.

Agree Watsey, its my reservation and hence the test drive. If all goes as per use case though it might not see much action. I'll see though and feedback.

There are definitely drawbacks to the CVT, but they are fairly easy to drive around with familiarity - that said, that suits my driving style and maybe not everybody's. I've never found the CVT in our petrol Auris an issue for its urban usage, in fact I really like the lack of gear changes spoiling things.
Anyway, had a quick go in the sales manager's RAV4 PHEV. urban, then a quick couple of miles of dual carriageway. Empty of charge apart from regen, so largely similar to a normal hybrid to drive, but impressively quick. Much, much, faster to pick up the pace than my old 440i - similar power but zero lag. Reasonably refined at 70, not as good as the Highlander or D5, probably better than the 440i from memory. Feels well made, as you'd expect, very solid doors etc. Seats perhaps not up to what you might expect in a BMW. Would need to live with them to find out if that's a first impression thing or something more significant. Very good package for the money imho, not much to touch it at that price.

Well back to the thread title 'Impressive figures' but the test drive less so.
Considering this is pretty booked weeks ago 1. Car filthy inside and out 2. Petrol light on 3. EV Battery Empty Unbelievable! This obviously soured things somewhat but I've been out charging the car when driving for a bit. Now have 35 miles and will pick up daughter from work later. It's not the one for sure. Although the new 2 Active Tourer is no ones darling it shows that 50+ mile PHEV is coming to all the model refreshes and the 3 is due an LCI soon. That would be my choice maybe now. Current betting:- Even - Tesla M3 LR ticks all the boxes to be fair Even - do nothing a keep X2 up to a year 3-1 Ioniq 5 LOVE it's look but interior is so/so as was the drive 5-1 BMW 330e LCI in a year 10-1 Polestar 2 had the nicest EV cabin 5000-1 with Leicester winning the Prem RAV4 PHeV

I'm test driving the Cupra Formentor 245 hybrid on Thursday. Not in the same league as the RAV4 for space or range. But it will be a 2nd car for us and will suit my new (new job) driving pattern. I'll report back in due course for anyone interested.

Apologies for resurrecting this thread - i'm moving to a Rav4 PHEV Dynamic premium (top model) next month, moving from the 2018 440i GC, massive change for me but had a nice days demo with one and the electric range certainly in town city is massively underquoted, I managed close to 60 miles on full electric before it switched to HV (hybrid mode) and after that was showing 58mpg.
Sadly the cost of filling the 440i on premium which i like to use has changed since 2018 when things seemed much different, i'm on about 30p per mile in the 4 series, if I charge the rav4 during economy 7 tarrifs (octopus energy) i'll be looking around 6p per mile! Of course, it's not a bmw and i will miss the 440 massively, but sadly times seem to be changing. The biggest loss for me will be idrive, it literally was the only thing keeping me with the brand when I last swapped, I was considering an audi but idrive with all the nice online entertainment and what not kept me. On the upside the toyota felt much quicker and alert than the bmw with no real gear changing and instant electric power. Excited in some ways, but sad in lots of ways! All the best with this forum, its been a big help through the years. |

Guess we will all have to go this route sooner or later and get used to the idea of it being a tool, not a hobby, not something you look at and admire, not something that ties you to a car scene, not something you drive for fun...

Brilliantly put - very true and it’s exactly how I feel, it feels like the fun in over unless you want to pour money away at a car these days. I priced some tyres and a service up a few months ago for it and nearly fell through the floor.

I often think a performance model is a waste, and I do think the new Lexus NX450 looks a decent option - which is just a RAV4 in a posh frock..... Enjoy the car and stick around to keep us updated about it....think there will be a few others considering something similar |

We'll go electric next undoubtedly and my mate and I have been giving real thought to acquiring something like a manual M3 V8 as a long term keeper / hobby tucked away in the "stable".
