It's a lovely green a bit like the green jag do on the f-type? Can look really dark then pops in the sun.

It may come as a surprise Chris that most of us dont do and see our dealership for a chat and a coffee, but then I guess most havent spent as much time in a dealership full stop

In addition, I think I have only ever seen 2 new 4 series out on the road this last year, or since launch. I really would have expected to see more.

When I bought my F32 immediately after they were released I met a few on the way home from collection. Not sure the 4 series is a big seller (yet).

I've seen a new M3 and M4.

I see they're also offering a nice dark metallic red (Aventurine Red) on the 4-series so perhaps BMW have been listening to some of the comments about restricted colour choice? Although looking at the options for M340i - which look to be pretty much unchanged - perhaps not!

Little follow up.

Collecting this on Thursday.

Apart from laser lights, pretty much every option (all that I wanted and many more that are "nice to have" but I might have omitted to keep costs down). Was a pre-specced, pre-built car by BMW. Arrived today.

Got same price for my 435D as I paid last December and 10k KMs ago.

Got large discount. Good time to buy, just before/during summer holidays.

And get all the toys that most people will not be able to order due to semi-conductor shortages. Either forcing them to re-spec or wait indefinitely for confirmation.

Looking forward to bathing myself in 700 NMs of torque.

Discussing getting a few things added from the M Performance catalogue before collecting.

Collect on Thursday, hopefully.

The eagle has landed.

Will post more when I have had some more seat time.

Initial impressions, smooth and utterly effortless. Just woofling about at the moment.

Had the carbon-fibre M Performance front lip installed.

Lucked out with finding Goodyear Eagles fitted. I really like them with respect to refinement and NVH.

That looks really nice... Certainly one of the best looking 4's I have seen so far...

Think the Goodyears will be on my shopping list soon... I got Bridgestone Turanzas...

Is it more refined than the 435d in terms of the diesel..ness?

I miss the 435d's torque, I really do. If it just didn't sound like a damn diesel I'd still have it, but it irritated me too much.

Thanks guys. It had the black pack, which I wanted. I don't mind the grills like that, chrome ones don't really appeal to me. Black headlight interiors too. I think that setup goes well with the black lip spoiler.

Oh yes. Reminds me of my old 430d s-drive. Very refined, smooth and quiet. My old 435D was more vocal/grumbly and the lower gearing in 1st and 2nd was eager and fun but not as laid-back limousine smooth/lazy as my 430D.

Pretty sure the 48V has a part in the way that the M440d eagerly and quietly just swiftly pulls away from rest.

I'll give a more detailed report after a week or so.

Very nice. I am still in two minds about the grill however that wouldn't stop me having one if I was given it at a good price:-)

Interesting! I much prefer the refinement of my 40i over the 35d it replaced but at times I have to admit I miss the torque of the diesel. The vast majority of the time it's not an issue but there are occasions - such as regaining cruising speed on a dual carriageway after you've been baulked - when the petrol will drop a gear where the diesel wouldn't need to and I do find myself thinking "I wish it wouldn't do that". Perhaps one of these gearbox flashes people talk about might help but I suspect it's something you have to accept and live with.

On balance I still much prefer the petrol though - the M340d wasn't available when I ordered but if I was choosing again now I'd still go for the M340i. That said I understand why others might come to a different view and I'm certainly not knocking the 40d; it still makes a lot of sense, especially for someone doing lots long runs.

Oh I much prefer the refinement of the 40i. Spent a few hours in it today, mixed driving with some blasts when possible. The exhaust, as naff as it is stock, still puts a huge smile on my face. Partner says its embarrassing

But the RWD difference mixed with less torque, has me spending a lot of time finding the right gear to get that torque I crave, and I find myself dissapointed when I find it. Can't believe I prefer a bloomin' diesel's power.

Not going to give up the 40i any time soon, but I know a remap/mppsk is absolutely on the horizon. And getting a diesel does not make any sense for me, I just don't do the miles to justify one.

Clearly the only sensible option is a nice big V8...

Now that is a gorgeous looking car, just proves BMW can still pull it off in the 'looks dept' when they want to
