I too am looking for a 440i...

We're in competition then. May the best man win!

Personally I'm not all that fussed about the newer models having an OPF and the sound being dulled, as I'm not into that loud drama, certainly not into pops and bangs, I just want the better refinement over my 435d.

I intend to remap mine pretty much immediately to get the torque up (unless I get a unicorn that's already got the MPPSK).

I went from a pre-LCI F31 330d with MPPK to an LCI F36 440i with MPPSK. The 440i engine and gearbox are absolutely superb, the handling however is pretty average.
Be warned about the practicality of the F36 boot for carrying a bike, however. The glass in the hatch is steeply raked so not nearly as practical as a touring in my experience. I had to remove wheels and twist handlebars to get bikes in the F36, much less of a hassle in the F31

I'd favour a roof rack over putting the bike in the boot tbh.

We put the dog in the boot and he's fine, plenty of room for a Staffy.

Plenty for a Labrador too - but not with a bike at the same time (dog can't reach the pedals anyway!)

I had a roof rack on the F36. Easy to put stuff up there as the car is pretty low.

Dog on the roof and expensive bike in the warm dry boot.

The PPF addition in mid 2018 doesn't change the tax price. After April 2017 there's an extra £325 a year for the first 6 years. After this the price goes down to £150ish.

MPPSK is well worth the money, I love it on mine, really makes the car. The only thing I felt it was missing when it was stock was the noise to match the performance, the MPPSK adds that. Even better being able to 'mute' it with the valves for longer drives.

Definitely try to find one with the HUD... I would never go for a modern car without the HUD now that I have one with it.
For me the HUD is a nice to have, it hasn’t quite made it to essentials for me having driven both. If ordering new you can add whatever you like, makes little difference.

If buying secondhand it’s much much better to have fewer “must haves”. They just make the process long and painful. To put a bit of perspective on it, Autotrader only has 31 440i GC’s of any age or spec for sale right now,

Test drove one the 440i yesterday and was impressed

Whats the servicing costs like compared to a 330D ? Much difference ?

Also watching loads of reviews on YouTube they say the 440i GC is heavy and not as much fun as he 340,240,140 ?

I get it might not be compared to the 140 but the 340 ?

I drove all 3 and couldn’t tell much difference between the 3 and 4. 1 is a completely different car, more power and lighter, not really a fair comparison.

3 might be lighter, but I think 4 felt more planted, so balanced out a bit. Not big enough a difference to stop me buying the 4 which I think has a bit more of a special feel than the 3.

Not once MPPSK'd though
But yes, lighter by any means.

I have an F32 coupe. It's a 68 plate OPF model with the digital dash. For me, I wasn't bothered by MPPSK but I can see why others like it. The standard exhaust still has some burble and the odd gunshot and I'm more a fan of engine noise myself, but everyone is different.

The digital dash is lovely. It's clean and modernises the cabin, but isn't the atrocious clusterf@ck that the new ones are on newer 1/2/3/4 models.

I'm debating selling mine. I'm WFH for the foreseeable but at the same time I love the thing!

I have the digital dash and HUD in my 435d... I thought i would miss it in an M4 - but tbh I find the HUD more more useful... If i found the ideal car without the digital dash i wouldnt be too bothered by it now.

Just called BMW and ouch the servicing costs are nearly double the 330D

Regarding the boot on the GC, I have though-loading on the the current 330 saloon but getting the mountain in and out under which is hard work. Its a E bike and cant really go on the roof and when loading into the boot you have to have arms out and hard work

I don't want a touring, hence looking at the GC

Has anyone come from a 330d to 40i and noticed MASSIVE increases in running costs ???

This recent post might help but it's comparing a 435d with a 440i: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1739615

Went from 330d MPPK to 440i MPPSK...
Can't recall servicing costs being much different, tbh, always worth shopping around anyway. Fuel costs, yes, obviously!

BMW are always doing 25% off services. I have had three now and never paid full price. Think my major inc spark plugs etc was around 460 quid. Think the minor was low 200’s.

On fuel I have averaged 30mpg over 30k miles. If sitting on motorway at a reasonable speed it is good (can tick over at 45 plus mpg) town not so much.

Mine is March '18 and whilst I appreciate the MPPSK I still spit feathers at the RFL "premium".
It's about time this was abolished/adjusted to get car sales moving as the 40k limit hasn't been adjusted for inflation and must be limiting "ordinary" sales (and VAT revenue).

2015 330d to 2018 440i gc here.
Do it is all I'd say. Never a day goes by when I regret the change. Prettier and the boot is MUCH more useful.
Service costs are broadly similar, except for the major with the costs of spark plugs adding quite a bit you the job. Do a youtube search to watch what a faf it is to do, taking half the internals out at the back of the engine bay to access the last 2 plugs.
Over the lifetime of the car, the cost is not worth worrying about imo.

Digital dash is essential, Modernising the interior big time. Other than that, plus pack for 19 inch and HK audio etc.
