So far I'm averaging 5 mpg better than my e90, and on a new engine no less. It may not be quite as much as initially advertised, but for my DC area stop and go commute this mileage is impressive (25-26 mpg after first refuel). Not to mention the on demand torque is fantastic. Suspension complaints aside, the F30 is a real performer so far and the mpg has been an added bonus.

Thanks for this update, Jason. At least it is encouraging to know they're looking into it

I think this is fairly normal...early adopters do take on these risks.
In terms of owning the car, however, it depends on who you trust for a more accurate real-world mileage figure, BMW or the EPA. Pros and Cons for both sides as to which to believe. The truth will come out with an additional EPA test and the real-world experiences of people who have bought the car. This is the advantage of waiting it out and seeing where the car is at once it has left the hands of the few testers built to analyze the theoretical data and into the hands of thousands of real owners. So if I had bought the 328i, it would not change my feeling at all. Wait and see where the real number is....I think most owners would know that this is a possibility when buying a brand new model in its first year of production. |

I guess what I'm trying to say is that, if I'm not wrong, 335i's gas mileage could be correct as is. |

Check out this article.
http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/201...s-dont-add-up/ I wouldn't be surprised if there is a conspiracy going on with the EPA trying to curb sales of imports. Or maybe the EPA put the fattest American (as the Euros like to calls us) behind the 328i. Go USA! REX KWON DO! And don't worry, I'm not trying to get a kick out of this... but it is kinda funny. After all, I ordered a 335 and I'm sure the EPA dood that test drove it is probably overweight with an even heavier foot as well.. so those results will probably be worse as well. But seriously, I think if you ordered a 328i, be happy with it! Real world figures, on this forum at least, are showing much promise! |

I know this news may be a little shocking to folks, but let's step back and look at the big picture.
Pre-Revision 328i MPG Estimate: 15,000 miles @ 36 mpg @ $3.99/gallon = $1,666.67 Post-Revision 328i MPG Estimate: 15,000 miles @ 33 mpg @ $3.99/gallon = $1,813.53 So basically, you'd be spending $146.97 more in fuel *IF* this decrease in MPG actually comes to fruition. Does anyone seriously want to change their car order for this small amount of difference? Let's look at it another way .... My '08 E92 335xi MPG Reality: 15,000 miles @ 24 mpg @ $3.99/gallon = $2,493.75 Post-Revision 328i MPG Estimate: 15,000 miles @ 33 mpg @ $3.99/gallon = $1,813.53 Annual Fuel Savings = $680.22 That's still a chunk of change, and a lot less than the $5K premium I would pay for a 335i vs. a 328i.

I guess I better stick to my 128. I was thinking of getting a 328, but for 10% improvement( I get 30mpg at 78mph 1 hour highway commute), I'd rather keep what I have and drive it to the ground. I drive 30k miles a year anyhow.

I agree. Comparing BMW's numbers to the EPA's is like comparing apples to oranges. I know it sounds crazy because they are supposed to be running the same test, but obviously they have not. Therefore, until the EPA tests the 335i, we will not know what the EPA fuel economy for the 335i is. What we do know is that under BMW's tests, the 328i was more fuel efficient than the 335i. We will just have to wait for more information.
