2016 340i msport
Hello all,
I just recently upgraded to the 2016 340i msport from a 2013 328i. I absolutely love the car but I would like an explanation on something, apologies if this is in the wrong section, also if this is a super noob question. I'm wondering why easing on the throttle "feels" faster then just hammering it. I assume it has something to do with boost threshold, but I'd like a more formal explanation. For example, if I'm in 2nd gear and I ease onto the throttle and climb the RPMs slower, the car gives more of a pull feeling. Where as if I'm in 2nd and just hammer the throttle, it just doesn't feel the same. Sorry for the super noob question, I'm genuinely curious as to why this is. Thanks, S |

Congrats on the car. The "butt dyno" is not always right and some of the faster feeling pulls can actually be slower. I highly recommend getting a dragy. I learned a lot about my car since I got mine. It was the best $120 bucks I spent on the car. They are transferable between cars and have great resale value if you don't like it.

The throttle mapping is adjusted based on how you press the pedal. I've noticed that it almost surges when i apply partial throttle, but at full throttle it is more of a gradual push. It's just how the pedal is tuned. This is mostly experienced in Comfort mode since sport mode has a sharper response regardless of partial vs. full throttle.

I went from a Stage 2 F30 N26 to a stock F30 B58. The car seems pretty mild, but I am sure a stage 1 tune will wake it up. Loving the B58 so far, and went with the M sport package this time, not making that mistake again, lol.

It is faster with a consistent and quick throttle vs just hammering it. The throttle is drive by wire, and the ECU opens the throttle blade as it sees fit (not directly connected to the pedal). To save the driveline, prevent wheel slip, etc, the ECU slowly ramps the throttle up.

Great questions. Is this an auto? Is traction control on? 93 or 91 octane? Sport or eco mode ?

Sorry, I should have included more information. Auto, xDrive, Traction control on. 93 octane. Comfort mode (usually), but I can still create the same feeling in all modes. |
