Also, I think the reason my first try worked was b/c it was masking the odor with a scent (Wasn't klima).
Jkwhar, maybe try this. Read from post 17 in this thread.

The only thing that would get rid of the smell is the Air Con Bomb spray. Buy a spray can and place it under the passenger foot well, close all windows, select the air recycle button on the climate control so air is sucked only from inside the cabin, turn the ac on and put the fan on max and then release the spray can lock on the nozzle. Get out of the car and leave it running for 15 minutes, then get inside and open all windows and leave the ac running on max for another 10 mins. Park the car overnight, start the ac the next day and enjoy the fresh smell!

I’ve used this method many times before and works a treat eveytime! I’d also advise to fit a brand new cabin filter straight after the treatment.
Cheers

Alright, after all this, it ended up being the filter. Replaced the filter, no smell. I'm on week 5 or so and its been hot and humid here. I did get a filter that doesn't contain activated charcoal to see if thats the culprit but its gonna be awhile before I report back on that.

I'd say guys, if it smells, just replace the filter and watch it go away.

[ laughing ] ... jkwhar, you beat me to it. I was going to ask the question "Before you all take apart your dash and AC units, have you replaced the cabin filter yet?"

You can also use a portable garden pressure sprayer with the nozzle bent into a hook.
You remove the air filter and insert the nozzle into the air inlet behind the air filter. The hook will "go around the corner" and empty out on the top of the evap. The fluid will drain through and out the AC outlet under the car. I have done this several times in my car - unfortunately.

I came across this post while searching for a possible solution. My wife’s F30 had a weird smell whenever I would turn the AC on. So I thought it might be the cabin air filter. Today, I changed it. However, when I opened the area of the passenger footwell to access the filter, I noticed a yellow ring on the foamy-pad. I also noticed some yellow liquid on the blower motor right where the parts sticker is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have uploaded the picture here:

The yellow liquid could be electrolyte that leaked from a capacitor that's used on the motor power supply. I can't say for sure, but it's one possibility. I'd have it looked at.

F25 AC smell as well

Any chance the imgur picks from 2018 can be hosted again? I'm trying to do this to my X3, but I don't know where the AC drain hole is. Would be great if I could see the original images again. @jkwhar

I doubt many F30 owners will know where the X3 drain is, unless they happen to own an X3 as well. The best way to find it is to run the AC on a humid day, then trace where the water under the car is coming from.

I tried reuploading but somethings failing. Might need to create a new account. I'll work on this a little later.
