£1k seems ridiculous for some stone chips though
And they likely wouldn’t even get them repaired before it went to auction or through Cinch like many of their cars if they’re good enough. Or touched up with a pen for £10.

A word of praise from me for selling through Motorway.co.uk. The process was easy and they have very clear communications.

Importantly they allow you to give them details of all the car's options when you talk to them before the sale goes live and based on that they give you what they believe is a reasonable reserve price (massively ahead of WBAC!) which in my case was then actually beaten by £1300 by the winning dealer.

Obviously it depends which dealer buys the car but for me it was very smooth and the money was in my bank account before the chap drove away in the car.

Looks like I’ll be exiting out of my 340i next week.

Owned for 2 years and enjoyed every mile. Nil depreciation (infact has appreciated).

Only if the new one is a good deal too.... or else you are just deferring the depreciation into the new one!

Not sure if I am saying that for your benefit or mine 😉

Ah so they can go above the ‘reserve”. I was wondering, as although the figure quoted on mine is pretty good and above WBAC I expected a little more due to its individual nature as I’m sure they will sell it easily.
I actually started the process but only filled in part of the form, only to get an email from them anyway today….

I’m torn ….. but may have just found a house I want to move to…

Yes sold my Golf through them in April. Great experience and would recommend.

I think it's a key point that you give them the spec of your car. I don't know but I assume the dealers bidding on your car can see the spec listed, and this could well push up the bidding price.

Unlike WBAC where they'll give you jack sh!t more for it with a higher spec.

(In fact WBAC will most likely knock the price down not up for the reasons mentioned above).

Yes the dealers do get the full spec details. The place that bought mine is in Burnley and they specialise in high spec BMW / Mercedes / Audi. The chap that came to me in Leeds to collect was telling me he will go almost anywhere in the UK for the right car.

talking to my dealership sales family member (referred to him earlier in the thread) over the weekend and yes, the depreciation is coming. his Disco is up 8k since may, will be down the very same in a years time according to the stats he has access to. we did work out there might be one trick to avoid the depreciation, which is more about avoiding the appreciation and that is to buy something so new (2/3k miles on it) that it cant go over the list price (cos car buyers arent daft... wait a minute.)

definitely not set in stone as a good plan, if the dealer can't supply it, then list price means very little.

but he definitely thinks the depreciation is coming soon.

Does he mean it is forecast to drop 8k in the next 12 months? Pretty good if so.

Mine has gone 52 to 61k since May, now 13 months old. Versus my previous one booking at 47k at 12 months old. If I held onto mine and it was still worth £52/53k at 24 months old then I would be pretty happy with that.

Edit to add - sorry, £62k. Just refreshed and it's up £1300 since last Monday.

Do you get much flexibility with sale date on motorway? I'm guessing it's just a few days from advert live to car gone, rather like tootle used to be?

Yes it's all very quick. In fact I went a bit too early but thankfully the buying dealer was OK about it.

My timeline in late August was

- Monday 23rd. Uploaded photos, spoke to Motorway to give them details of all the options and agreed the reserve price.

- Tuesday 24th. Car was in the daily auction and the winning bid is emailed to you at 3.00pm. They tell you at that point that the dealer should contact you within 48hrs to agree collection. Credit to Motorway they do follow up to make sure this has happened.

- Wednesday 25th. Dealer called and actually wanted to come the following day. That was actually a week too early for me but they were OK about it.

Hope that helps.

Perfect, thanks very much. That does sound just like Tootle was. It's such a painless way to move a car on and with every chance of a great price too.

Seems like (for me) the sensible thing to do is agree a trade in and then put onto motorway around two weeks or slightly less before delivery. If I can beat the trade-in value at that point then it's a win.

Pretty much there. Finding the time for one last look is the trick, then hopefully landing a stock car (still exist as I type this).

And that is a ......?

It is very tempting but I cant get over the fact that NOTHING (except an Alpina B3 or D3S) would be on my list to buy - even though I really want to go electric.......

I was toying with swapping the Mini for an eNiro and the Audi for a campervan but camper prices are even more stupid than cars! and I have nowhere to park a decent sized one....

I was passing BMW earlier and I thought I would pop in and have a chat.

Upshot is they have offered me £56,750 for the 8 series which actually equates to BMW paying me circa £500 a month to drive their car

The offer holds for 48 hours.

Highlander Hybrid. For those unaware, another 3 row family SUV, perhaps more of a crossover. Pretty much made the segment in the US over two decades and just introduced here with the 4th gen. Third of a million a year shifted globally and no doubt the UK will add a third of a hundred to that.

That said, deal is not done, just need to get that second look at one. Which is easier said than done as they are thin on the ground. Numbers work, better by the day, and I'm ready to sign on the dotted line.

This was along the lines of something I looked at when ordering the 8GC. I know this is completely the wrong mindset to have, but I was sitting on the fence trying to decide if I should go X3 > 8GC and out of curiosity went and looked at approved used cars on the BMW website, picked out a couple of examples (demos?) that were 21 plates with 1,500-2,000 miles on them, plunked the registrations into WBAC and they were paying out more than what I am on a factory order!

As I said I know it’s the wrong mindset to have but I’ll call it my safety net.

Had to google this, but have to say it looks like a good option but was not on my radar at all when I went for the X5.

My only issue with it is the symmetrical rear numberplate....
