Just put my previous car into WBAC - 2014 335d - and was surprised that it doesn't seem to have jumped up in the way most cars have. It was valued at 12.3k versus 11k just pre-pandemic. Perhaps it's just too old - I think Cinch has a 7 year age limit.

I didnt think my Mini had either. Valued at just under 8k when I bought it (paid off my daughters PCP balloon just before 4 years old). It was running at less than £7.5k earlier in the summer but now showing at £10k plus. Maybe I should swap it......

That is a lot. I thought your Mini was a similar age to mine. WBAC are offering 8.2k for my 5dr Cooper D which is just under 6 years old. It has a really good spec too, but I don't think WBAC care about that.

I think the accountant in you should overrule the petrolhead and take a look at the cost to change...

Its 6 years old next Saturday. 5 door Cooper petrol with 27k miles, sort of full service history. Its got Chilli pack, 17" black cosmos wheels, black roof, LED lights, chromeline interior and exterior blah blah.

If I could get a decent BEV for that and £15k I'd be in there. Have half looked at the MG 5 estate, or the Kona. But I need another £5k and then borrowing £20k for a station car seems a bit stupid really....

(and if I had a practical second car we know the Audi would be next for the "what if" question.... plus the Mini has an emotional attachment, last thing my wife did was fetch it with my daughter, her very first new car, the Mrs was so proud and excited...she never fetched my new cars, or even her own!)

After getting a quote a couple of weeks back on WBAC (just for curiosity), they've been emailing me regularly about it. Today I get the email asking me to get my "Updated Valuation". Having read that used Audi A3 prices have gone up over 46% since 2019 along with rises on lots of other cars, my interest was piqued. Shouldn't have bothered - my latest valuation has gone DOWN £600!

A 6yr old 340i is not a desirable car

Incidentally, local garage who look after my step-mum's ageing Citroen XM tried to flog her a 2007 Focus LX today, asking £2K for it. Plugged the license plate into Carwow and it suggested the car was worth £460! Where do these people get off trying to con old ladies?

A garage selling a car will always ask for more than a private seller and, IMO, anything under £2k is the area where condition and the buyers desperation will have a huge impact on the price paid. I've got my old CRV re-MOT'd this week to sell. It's 19yrs old and got 190k, FSH and a fresh ticket on it. The tyres are all good, the brakes are good and the oil's just been changed. It's going up for £1200 going into winter. If it had one month's mot, knackered tyres and needed the brakes doing then it would be worth less than half that. Similarly, it isn't so much what these valuations say something's worth but what they're going up for and what they're selling for. My '03 Impreza WRX at one point had a book value of about £1900!

Yep I know garages will always command a higher price but it still grinds my gears when I see someone trying it on. This Focus was a junker, looked underneath and it was just corrosion everywhere. Previous MOT history was nasty too. The guy was offering a limited 30-day warranty of "well if anything happens in the first few weeks we'll take a look" and I reckon he just got this thing and figured he'd make a quick killing on it. Problem is my step-mum thinks the sun shines out of his backside and won't be told otherwise. She told him she had a budget of £6K which normally would get her a decent runaround and he comes up with this. I'm actually trying to convince her she doesn't need a car as she does less than 500 miles a year and has lots of friends who drive plus local taxi firms, but it's the old 'loss of freedom' idea unfortunately.

Hope you manage to shift the CRV ok.

Local BMW dealer has an almost identical M40i to mine on the forecourt just now - same age (late 2019), similar mileage (7k) but with a slightly lower spec. They’re asking a whopping £50K for it

Two years ago I paid just shy of £48K after discount, WBAC are still offering around £45K.

When I idly enquired about a new LCI replacement last month the “best” trade-in BMW were prepared to offer was £41.5K, no room for discussion.

I think I’ll be hanging on to it for a bit….

They must be smoking something at HF Giffnock. My old one (which from memory was the same spec. as yours (M-Sport +, Comfort Pack and Technology Pack - ?) but had a pano. roof) is up at £48k at HF Irvine and I got a wee bit over £43k trade-in for it.

As an absolute bare minimum you’re looking at the Arnold Clark ‘Sell My Car’ price from HF on a trade-in as that’s who they are (you can select HF Giffnock as your branch to take your car to), so £41.5k is a bit off it...

My X3M40d sold in 3 days at HF Irvine. Was on website at just under £44k but was sold before any pics were put up, know it was mine due to the listed mileage, ended up getting 41.5k for it.

Based on my recent experience with that dealer, they need to improve their sales techniques to shift the car.

After a test drive, they never returned any of my wife's calls to order the car! Wasn't impressed!

I think they lost a couple of their best guys to the Mercedes garage across the road. The person I dealt with made it very clear early in the conversation that unless I was prepared to pay essentially full price and accept a low-ball offer for my current car then he wasn't interested in negotiating.

Basically "take it or leave it, I'm not that bothered as I can easily sell this car on those terms to some desperate fool with an abundance of cash and a lack of patience"

Polite, yes. Engaged & engaging? No.

Not entirely sure I'd go back to them, maybe try Irvine if I stay with BMW next roll of the dice. Or maybe further afield for the right deal.

Blimey

Tick every option on a top-spec RS3 on the configurator and you don't even get to within £10K of that.

Mental.

I deal with Paul Evans at HF Irvine and have always found him to be a fair negotiator also Richard Linden is the general manager and always end dealing with him on the nitty gritty deal details. The only issue I have with the Irvine branch is the service dept is a bit sh£t, have had various run ins with them but always end up getting things sorted.

I'm continually amazed by the px prices being quoted. I've just put my 14 plate 335d into cinch. Car has close to 87k on the clock now, had 62k on when I paid a smidge over £16k Sept 20.

Cinch px offer based on three previous owners and 'good' condition- £15,800

At least another 9 months of this.

The longer it goes on too the longer dealers are getting used to lower volume higher profit. Seems to be working for them now too.

Let's see.

I don't know how long a dealer would normally take to sell a car but my 340i which they bought on 2nd September is still listed as for sale.
