Michelin Crossclimate+
I switch between a summer and winter set each year. Excellent 19" MPS4S summers and mediocre 18" Pirelli Sottozero winters.
My winter tyres need to be replaced, and I was wondering about getting an all season Michelin Crossclimate+ instead of a dedicated winter tyre, on the basis that quite a bit of the UK winter is not snow or ice, and their winter performance is not far off a true winter tyre. I would still use the MPS4S in summer. I appreciate that plenty switch between winters and summers, but does anyone else do this - switch between a performance summer tyre and an all season winter tyre ? Views please? |

Something I’ve been thinking of as well. There’s one of the UK tyre reviews on YouTube showing the guy taking an Audi A3 up a steep snowy incline the like of which we probably wouldn’t even see in the Highlands here. They also are supposed to cope with temperatures above 7c where winters start to suffer, so to my mind they make a lot of sense in terms of your logic.

I do have a square winter set up - 225/45/18 all round. On reflection I think wider rear tyres would have suited the 35d engine a little better, as it can overwhelm the narrower rears, but my wheels are 8J all round.

My son lives in Germany and has cross climates for winters at the moment on his Opel Insignia Estate, he recons they are OK. Still goes back to the summers in March as the all weathers get squirmy as it warms up by comparison to a summer.
I did put all weather tyres on the daughters 147 Q2 Alfa and they have performed really well she likes them and seeing as she isn't driving like a racer, suits her fine. |
