Dual Heating

Afternoon all, just got a 3 series 12 plate, not sure I like the directional options after having my 10 plate M3 but I'll get used to that, but is there a way to have the inside temperature set so the drivers side knob does both and that you don't have to separately control them? Not major but I'd be surprised if it couldn't be done.
Thanks

They removed that feature in F30s for some reason. My E82 had a dual button. My GF's CX-5 has the same. I really hate when they change these small QOL things in a car.

Honest question: why are people interested in a sync button? It's a full dual zone system. The passenger temp doesn't affect your temp. I've had my passenger at 80 degrees and me at 68 and we were both comfortable.

It makes no sense to have dual zones when the driver is the only person in the car.

Why don't you then just adjust your zone and forget about the other. It doesn't make any difference to you whether it's a dual zone or single zone.

Dual zones are not perfect so I keep them the same generally. Is it that big of a deal? No. But makes no sense to have sides of the car at different set temperatures when one person is in it. I just want it all the same.

It just drives me nuts if the two numbers are different. Has nothing to do with temp and everything to do with symmetry. Like the "Sync" for that reason if no other. Also, I appreciate that Audi's temps move only in increments of 2 degrees. Hate odd numbers as well.

In my car, I set both temps to be the same because i like symmetry too. But no one else can touch/change them 🤣

There is no protective bubble in the car. Different zone-temperatures DO affect each other. They also force the AC system to work harder (blow constantly and harder) to maintain the difference. Symmetry is another reason. Every other car I have had or driven has a SYNC feature. There is a reason for that. Period.

Instead of driving a BMW you should consider an OCD.

And now on to the next First World Problem....

What he said. They only work "ok" if you are within a degree of each other. If my kids turn up the heat in the back of the car, I'm getting huge amount of heat coming around the drivers seat cooking me. I suppose if you are a person that just points the vents directly at them, then you may have better results. I don't find that comfortable though. I don't lay across my heat registers at home waiting for the furnace or AC to kick in.

Dual Climate Control = Useless Marketing Angle.

Because I lost my right vent to a phone mount/charger, so I use the next vent over (passenger vent) for myself now so I can still have two vents blowing air on me. No, I can't use the passenger vent for the phone mount, it would be too far away to see/reach the phone (I use it for navigation). Yes, I've tried other phone mounting systems but I like this one the best so I want to keep it as is. If the climate zones were synced it would just make life easier. My way of coping is to just leave the passenger side set to 70 and that seems to work out fine in most situations.

It's not a marketing gimmick. As I said I can have one zone at 80 and one at 68. If you have the vents pointed wrong or the system isn't working properly that's one thing, but two zones can be at different temps without affecting the other zone. The system/fan works more, sure, but that's also what it's designed for.

Imagine the catterwallering if the whiners had to deal with a sliding knob that went from red to blue and that's it. I'd have been happy with that for my first thirty years of driving with no AC.

Yeh... but... you cannot have a 12 degree spread in temperature 2' apart. Just doesn't work that way.

Car cabins are pretty tiny. You can blow 80F air one way and 68F air the other way, but it it sure isn't a "climate". I have yet to see ANY dual climate control system that actual works (because it really cannot).

And every switch plate and outlet cover screw in my house is perfectly vertical. How can people live when the screw slots are all pointed in different directions?!?!
