X Drive Flex Disk Recall

Guys,

I have my F31 in for the Flex Disk Recall and Sterling BMW is going to replace the transfer case as well, due to it supposedly leaking. I had fluids done late last year and there was no leaking from the transfer case. It seems they are drumming up some billable recall work. Those with X Drive cars in the area might want to get your vehicles in for the recall and possibly a new transfer case.

Do you have a link to the recall? Is this only on F31?

I'm also curious about this recall. Is this why there are a lot of transfer case failures?

Maybe this is just for the diesels? https://bmw.oemdtc.com/745/recall-20...0rear%20wheels.

I don't have the link only the recall notice. I will check it again, but I thought it was for all F30/1 cars with that flex disk. I'm not sure the diesels use a different transfer case from the gas cars.

I don't think the transfer cases on our cars are prone to failure, I just think the dealer is looking for billable work.

I'm seeing the recall for 2012-2016 F30/F31 vehicles with N47T diesel engine and build dates between 09/14/12 and 06/30/15.

There is a great thread on transfer case issues. Conclusion is that it's more prevalent to have transfer case issues on 4-cylinder xDrive since there is more vibration than with 6 cylinder engines. Really great details in the thread including exactly what failed inside TC and how to mitigate the issues.
