Yeah that is a fair point.

If you keep your car long term you know where you are at.

It might also be the case that prices don't drop, as more and more people realise they no longer have a job, as more people work less going forward and earn less and as new prices go through the roof (which seems to be happening) we might see the demand for older cars increase and prices stay firm.

The UK has tended to buy more new cars than just about anywhere, and they tend to keep them for the shortest period too, many only 2-3 years before swapping. In Europe and elsewhere many keep their cars for far, far longer, and because there is not the supply we have here for used cars, used prices are much stronger.

We might however see the silly deals we saw as we came out of the slump in 2011/12.
M135i on contract hire for 3 months down and then £179 a month plus vat.

M3's at £299 a month etc.

If we see the silly contract hire deals return then it will have a knock on effect on used prices.

But.....who knows where we will be?

I bought a 911 last week, complete gamble, but I have loved my 986 Boxster S and I thought if I don't do it now, I could probably miss the boat the way prices have been going.
I could have 'probably' got it for £3k less 18 months ago, maybe even more than that, but I could be paying £5k more for it in another 12 months. So decided to just buy it now, a price I was happy with no matter what happens price wise going forward.
That is all we can really do, pay what we are happy to pay.

I agree that it all comes down to what you are prepared to pay but my point is there are next to none around. Autotrader at this moment has 6 335d tourers with Harman Kardon and under £20k. 3 of them are Cat S/N. So there’s really only 3 straight cars to choose from.
I wonder when the market in term of quantity of cars will return to usual.

The market is still the same. Not many cars and silly prices. I just don’t understand where they all are. There must be a huge field somewhere full of them

Nearly spat my coffee out when I saw the thumbnail advert, didn't realise the car had been converted M3 style.

I know, the guys spent some serious cash on the car going by the blurb but regardless I'd struggle to part with that amount of money for that vehicle, nice as it is.
