RFT or MP4S
So I guess I had a lucky year last year, but in the last two months have hit two giant potholes causing bubbles and rips in my front Pirelli Pzero RFT's (staggered 18's).
I replaced the front passenger side last month with a new Pirelli from Tirerack, but now have a new bubble in the front driver's side. Holding air but visible rip so guess I need to get on it. My rears have about 5,000mi left (which is about a year since I don't drive much anymore) Wondering what people would do as far as tires - I can replace the front with another Pirelli - about $250 installed. When the rears go in about a year, that'll be another $500 to have them all pretty much new (let's call it $1000 because I already replaced the front right last month). Costco also has a deal on MP4S's installed for $850. Wondering if I just bite the bullet now, maybe try to sell the month-old RFT for something. or just spend $250 now. Is there a noticeable difference in road noise/ride comfort moving to non-RFT? I'm fine changing a tire, I occasionally do go up into the mountains where if a tire rips open, no tow truck is getting up there, but other than that RFT's don't really bring me peace of mind. Thanks! |

The PS4S's will be most likely better in every single aspect you can imagine; including the noise and ride comfort indeed. Switch and let us know your feedback

I love my PS4S. the road noise is minimal and the grip and handling are superior to the stock RFT i had. They got noisy at half tread and didnt hold well in the corners like the PS4S does. I even went from 18s to 19s and even doing so i have a more comfortable ride than i did with RFT 18s. All that said.... do it!

If I recall correctly, Pirelli P Zero tires come with a one year warranty. Did you have a chance to explore replacing the 2nd tire under warranty?
For LA area driving and weather, MP4S will serve you well. Just avoid going to Big Bear during the winter. |

Yeah unfortunately the latest bubble tire is over a year old or 2/32 of wear (came with the car)
