iDrive "Ghosting"
Hi,
In hot weather the iDrive system in my F31 (2018) starts clicking around on it's own, see videos below. The only way to temporarily resolve it is to turn off/on the car, but even that doesn't always work. It's been to the dealer and they obviously couldn't replicate it so they updated the firmware of everything for ~$200 USD. It's now winter and I can't get it to fail but if I wait until summer the car will be out of warranty. As the car has been imported, I have to front up the repair/part replacement cost and BMW will refund it once they get the $ back from Germany. Annoying, but it is what it is. What part/parts do you think BMW should replace? I suppose it could be the touch screen itself or some controller, but if they replace one part and it doesn't work, by the time it fails again the car will be out of warranty. Thanks for any input. |

Just in case anyone else stumbles across this issue. BMW issued a bulletin on 24th February 2019 for this fault. They will replace the touch screen under warranty.

As your OP was 6 months after bulletin, your Dealer did not do a good job on the issue, charging you $200 for a firmware update that did not fix issue.
