You're not going to go wrong with either and you're correct, this has been debated to death. I use MHD and have on several vehicles, ultimately both vendors are providing good OTS maps at this point. If you want more, a pro tune is necessary and both vendors can be used in this manor. Also, both offer upgraded hpfp OTS tunes which get you into the mid 400 whp range on ethanol, this is great performance for basic bolt ons and just a tune...

I personally run BM3 Stage 2 E30 (AGG) on the B58 platform and it always puts a smile on my face. I have heard positive reviews from MHD as well.

If it matters, BM3 is developing a board that will allow for flex fuel sensors and selectable map switching. Imagine being able to mix some E30, select the map and go. Need to fill up at some unknown station? Throw some 93 in there, switch maps and off you go. With sensors installed, you can even mix on the fly and the flex fuel sensor will adjust the tune for you!

I'm sure you can't go wrong with either. I went MHD because it seemed easiest to use and the dongle can be used for XHP as well.

I believe they have a flex fuel sensor coming down the pipe as well.

Hey neighbor I'm in HB too (we are Down Town by the pier)!!

BM3 & MHD are both great - but might want to consider Mission Performance too. Like BM3 & MHD MP has their own remote unlock/flash option and I ran their stage 2 on my 340 with great success and then transferred the flash to my current M340. And they are 45 mins from us in Ranch Cucamonga....while everything can be done remote I personally love the fact that those of us in OC have a world class tuner in our backyard that we can drive to if we want.

Note: Alex (MP owner) was hired by Toyota Global...to tune their SEMA B58 equipped Supra and Toyota issued a press release about it. He is that good...anyhoo I'm confident you'll be happy where ever you land (BM3, MHD, MP)....they are all wonderful and you are going to thoroughly enjoy the B58.

https://pressroom.toyota.com/gr-supr...re-appearance/

ps- we (neighbors friends family etc..) do drives to cars and coffee and other local meets and drives on a fairly regular basis it would fun to have another local join. Drop me an IM if your are interested in connecting

pps- if you ever want to drive my car to get a sense of Alex's work on the B58TU platform (I know a little different than what your new car will be) I would be more than happy to throw you the keys or take you for a drive

As stated, both are great, as is Mission Performance and MG Flasher.

In other words, there's no secret sauce. They have access to the same parameters. There's slightly different tuning philosophies.

If you don't have access to good gas (basically the entire Western US), I recommend MHD. BM3 is more timing/fueling sensitive, and it's what I personally use. Also, MHD's super license is cheaper than BM3 + map packs.

Again, all the tuning platforms are mature and fairly reliable. Can't go wrong with any of the 4. If we had ECUTEK available, that would probably the frontrunner.

I would be interested in understanding the differences between those tuners approach/philosophies.

Personnaly, I use MG Flasher.

I am running bm3 on my 340i currently stage 2 and ran stage 1 before my downpipe was in and have had no real issues the tune really livens up the car and their customer support is pretty responsive and helpful. I have yet to hear anything negative about MHD either I think you can't go wrong with either but so far I would recommend bm3 from my experience.

I prefer bootmod3.

the PTF team creates the OTS maps, offers support, and is the one that works on new features through software programming.

MHD are mainly programmers, the maps are bought through third-party tuners. I believe their N54 was provided by Wedge and the N55 by another company.

Hi, Does anyone know of a good shop in the Chicago area that will bench unlock the DME on a 2016 340i w/B58. Last time I went to the dealer, the DME was "updated" and locked me out. BM3 tune now on hold I would greatly prefer to just go local and wait in person for the unlock vs shipping having to worry about any mishaps. The few shops that I called that are authorized BM3 dealer only ship them out. No in-house unlocking. Thanks in advance.

You really can't go wrong with either one. I have MHD and I haven't had any problems at all. I have stage 2 E30 flashed.

Replying to my post in case anyone happens upon the same locked DME issue and are in the Chicago area. Performance Eurowerks in Buffalo Grove was able to unlock my DME with no problem. Their shop is legit. Trustworthly professionals. Will be going back when I need help above my DIY skill level.

BM3 you can resell later. I see people sell for 350 out there so it actually is cheaper in the long run than MHD as you had all the features and then it cost you in the end just 250 for it if you paid full pop. If you get it on a discount from some dealer shop then it ends up even cheaper.
