Running without TPMS?

so, I bought a set of winter wheels and had the tyres fitted. It just dawned on me that at no point did the seller mention tpms sensors and I dont think I have them fitted.

Question is, can I run the car without the sensors and if so is it likely to cause any issues?

Does your car definitely have TPMS, or just the old flat tyre warning?

Yeah pretty sure, It went off today, I had to reset the system by driving and it measured each tyre giving me the psi of each, that sound right?

I run my winter tyres without TPMS valves (not runflats). It just means that you have to acknowledge the fault on the idrive every time you start up with one press of the knob. A warning light then stays on the dash for the journey but you can use them without.

If you have runflat tyres it is advisable that you have TPMS valves as you may not realise they are losing pressure.

Ok that is TPMS then. If you run wheels without the sensors you will get an annoying message every time you get in the car (it doesnít appear until after a few miles the first time) and you have to click the idrive knob to clear it.

You can code the car to revert back to the old style flat tyre warning though. I did that for a couple of winters but last winter I had enough and bought some sensors for them.

I can live with clearing the fault short term, I was reading that it can prevents you from going into other drive modes and also if the fault persists, it locks and the dealer had to clear it ...... Iím guessing that you didnít have those issues?

It's ok as long as your MOT isn't due while your running them without the sensors

No there were no issues like that at all.

Tpms not working

Hi guys,

Wondering if anyone can help! Just brought 320d f30. Had a warning come up on the idrive about low tyre pressure on rear passander side. Stopped the car and fill tyre to the correct pressure and tried to reset the system but for some reason none of the tyres are highlighted and the reset tyre pressure is not letting me select that function

I had this problem when I bought the car, the aerial in the car that receives the TPMS data was dodgy and a common failure.

This was replaced under warranty and not had an issue since.

My car doesn't have TPMS though ....
Just the version that works on ABS sensor data. Main Stealer said it should have reset after a few miles when it went in for the EGR recall (no work required, yay), and didn't look at it because I have an android head unit.
