Wow this is awesome! I just moved out here from Miami a year ago...how do I get in on this? I had the 06 E90 and currently the 09 E90 and have been indecisive about the F30. This would be the perfect opportunity to make new friends and a better grasp on what my third Bimmer will be next

First post on f30post.com here, and looking forward to future ownership of an f30. Currently in search/shopping mode with my wife and hope to buy within the next 12 months. At this point I cannot decide between Estoril Blue II, Alpine White and Melbourne Red. I saw a blue f30 on the road and just about wrecked it was so gorgeous. But the thought of the Coral Red interior with the Alpine White exterior... fantastic.

To the thread starter: will you share the lens details you used to capture these photos? I have a DSLR with a couple lenses but would love to know what you used. Thanks!
First of all, welcome! Glad to have you on the forum and looking forward seeing your new F30! Wow those are all really great color choices. EBII and AW are def my favorite colors. But AW with red interior is really hard to beat!

Regarding camera gear, like hansolo1019 mentioned, I'm using the Canon 24-70 2.8 V1 and 70-200 2.8 V2 on a 5DIII body. I used to be a big prime lens guy but now I rarely ever use anything other than my 2 L zooms.

Thanks for checking out the photos and for the comments everyone! Really appreciate it! I love hanging out with my fellow car enthusiasts so it's great to have such an awesome bunch of guys as part of the SoCal crew. Hope to see some new faces at the next meet!

And yes E90s are definitely welcome!

Absolutely! We'd love to have you and I'm sure all of us will be more than happy to share any mod info we have on our cars that might interest you. Just check the California section often for local meet info. We post everything there.

Thanks for the info. I currently use a 50mm prime lens (F/1.8) and it works well but I miss the ability to 'frame' photos and 50mm is sometimes just too much zoom. If you had to choose one (24-70 or 70-200), which would it be? My budget can't afford both.

And I assume F/2.8 across the entire focal range is the key to getting the stunning depth-of-field and light quality/speed? I know this isn't a camera forum - just looking for general suggestions from someone who obviously is good and photographing cars and has a great setup. With that being said, do you know of any photography articles that specialize in photographing cars?

Thanks again!

Hey Bleser,

Thanks so much! Man, that's a tough choice. It depends on what kind of photography you'll be shooting most. If you do headshots and portraits, def the 70-200. Otherwise the 24-70 is the most useful focal length for every day photography. I'd start with the 24-70 first and pick up a tele prime like a 100 f2 which is cheap and fast. Also produces gorgeous images for the price.

Also I try to abide by the rule of thirds to keep your subjects interesting and I always shoot raw so that I get the maximum dynamic range. Also what really makes the most difference is your post processing workflow. Get familiar using photoshop or Lightroom and you'll be able to make your photos come to life!

Photography is a lifelong hobby and you will always be perfecting your technique. That's half the fun! Good luck and happy shooting!

Thanks again. Appreciate the feedback.

When you say you 'shoot raw', you mean raw files/uncompressed (not JPG)?
