Can you remap steering wheel button to something else?

I use all the steering wheel buttons every day apart from the stupid 'MODE' button. I have no use to change from DAB to FM on the wheel. I will stick with DAB all day every day.

Anyway, I would like to remap it say 'MUTE' which would be much more useful. Any idea if this can be coded?

If you use other media like a USB stick with MP3 albums, it will switch between the USB and DAB which is far more use than the switch to FM.

Yup, i have all my music stored on my USB stick and use it often to switch been my music or Talksport

To answer the OP question, i've not heard anyone coding the the MODE button before, but with most things, i imagine its possible.

Bump.

I'm also interested in mapping the steering wheel "Mode" button to mute/unmute. Anyone know if this is possible somehow?

Yeh i dont think there is an easy way to do that, annoying at the star button on my E91 could be mapped to a few things via the idrive! like you, mine was mute and was way more practical than the mode button.

Would be great if the "SET" button for the cruise control could be coded to operate as Set/Limit but I doubt that's possible.

It is possible. As in you can code the Set button to set the speed Limit to stop you going over it if that's what you meant?

Can the Set button be programmed to operate as Set and also as Limit, i.e. one press = Set (for cruise control), 2 presses = Limit (setting a max speed) !

You can’t mute, but you can unmute by pressing the volume up button.

never found a way to to do this - ended up setting the stored action on radio button to do mute/unmute. Change it to a different number every now and again to avoid one button wearing out

No unfortunately, Set becomes Lim. Res may then become Set but I can't remember exactly as I hardly use it and still get confused myself when using cruise control

The limiter works fine though!

I thought pressing the volume button on the dash is mute/unmute unless you mean something else!?

When on a call you can't mute from my wheel - so I program the mute/unmute functionality to one of the programable radio buttons.

So when I am driving just hit a radio button and voila, mute/unmute.

BMW dropped a bauble imo having mode over mute back on cars in 2017.

Fair enough I assumed you meant just in terms of muting/pausing the music

Doesn't the car automatically mute the radio when a call comes in

Think he meant muting the caller

Fair enough. I don’t think I’ve ever had the need to mute a caller, but I don’t get many calls in the car.

Yeah - I do a lot of conference calls - either WebEx or Teams - and if im in the car the ability to go on mute helps

Bump all you like, but it can’t be changed. You either use the volume buttons on the steering wheel or press the volume button on the dash.
