Smile 440i back box for 430d

Hi guys,

New to this forum, just picked myself up a 16 plate 430d GC. First BMW I have owned, coming from Mercedes and I must say I don't think I'd ever go back!!!

Been having a scour of these forums and just have a few questions was hoping I could get answered as I've never really done any car mods before.

1) I would like a dual exhaust set up like the 440i, and I have seen this on eBay:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-3-4-S...-/202226757919

Would this fit my car? If so, what sort of garage do I look for to carry out this sort of work?

2)Are the LCI rear lights a large improvement over the pre-LCI lights? And if I was to buy a set, is it as simple as putting them in and connecting these cables?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-4-Ser...YAAOSwlndZDDzI

Sorry for the long post! I appreciate your time!

Thanks!

In terms of the rear lights, when you say an improvement, it is purely down to personal preference. The pre LCI lights are perfectly functional but are not LED. I don't think it's as simple as take the old ones out and put new ones in either but I'm sure someone more technically minded than me will pop along soon.

LCI rear lights will require coding as well as the extra wire.

As for the exhaust, The Powerflow dealer locator will show where your nearest custom exhaust firms are. They will easily be able to adapt the exhaust to fit your car.

Thanks for the response guys. I can see there is a Poweflow just near me so thats perfect.

Has anyone had any experience with the 440i back box? Would that be the only part that i need that i posted in the opening post? Could it cause any issues with the car ?

Sorry for all the questions !

Thanks

It's pretty straight forward with the right equipment.
Cut the old one off after measuring where to cut and make up a coupler. Job done.
You just need to make sure that your diffuser can take a dual exit exhaust.

The exhaust hanging brackets underneath might need need to be moved slightly - they did on my F31 335D when fitting a 340i backbox

I had the OEM 440i back box fitted to my 430d GC recently but the hangers on the backbox required repositioning slightly as I think the 430d hangers on the body are a slightly different type/position. I got the box fitted at a Powerflow exhaust place so they weren't phased at having to reposition the back box hangers slightly, all in a day's work for them. They were meticulous when it came to tip alignment and symmetry and it cost me about £120 to get fitted.

Hi mate,

Thanks for the info -definitely helped to put my mind at ease. Your car looks absolutely mint!!! Decent price for a very effective mod!

I'm pretty OCD about things so i'm glad they pay close attention to the work.

Could I ask where you got your rear diffuser from ?

Thanks!

Hi there, no problem at all. I'm very happy with the look of my car now, the dual pipes have finished it off nicely. The part number you need for the dual bumper trim is 51128054564, I got it from Prentice BMW, Portadown for £109.95 delivered, they have one listed on eBay now, item number is 253359629466.

Hi mate,

Thanks for the info i’ll get that ordered !

I rang powerflow silchestrt today and they told me they won’t fit anything they haven’t made? I said I have a 440i back box and he said he won’t touch it and unless I get a custom exhaust made by them i’ll have to go elsewhere. Pretty rude bloke! Bit stuck now !

Anyone know any decent places in the South East? Basingstoke area preferably ?

Cheers guys

That's seems pretty ridiculous on their part, especially as it's a OEM box that will only require slight adjustment of a hanger...........that's their loss!!
