A little mod for the 340

While I'm happy with the sound of the standard exhaust and don't have the need for more noise I decided that the rear end needed a little freshen up with the tailpipes and I like the contrast of chrome with the black so went from this.....

The internal size of the MP tips are 67mm and the stock outside diameter of the exhaust is 60mm so a little converter is needed. Having done some searching I found that the 140i has some intermediate pipes you can buy that are perfect for the job. Although there are several exhaust suppliers that do similar it was cheaper to buy genuine BMW as they are stainless and also came with the clamps all for 34.00

I did cut 100mm off the standard pipes though so the smaller pipe doesn't show and it also saved cutting the peg off the original pipe.

Not quite sure if I need to push them further in but for now I'm pleased with the finish and still scope for adjustment.
A nice little mod if you can get new tips at the bargain price that I did.

Just thought I would add a couple of pics for anyone who may want to do similar.

Looks good, what did you use to cut down the original pipes, looks like a reasonably neat job? I recon if I had a go it'd look like a Rat had gnawed its way through.

Thanks. Used an exhaust pipe cutter... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264564580042 was a very neat job, I had just deburred the cut with a mini grinder so hadn't cleaned it all up when the pic was taken.

you got the part number for the adaptors, i got replica carbon tips because no company made the chrome ones. Chrome would always be my first choice, breaks the rear up like you said. The MPPSK tips are larger so look better in the diffuser

Part No. 18302287042 got mine from Cotswold BMW https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/114740955....c101111.m2109 although I phoned and got a marginally lower price than ebay

I will say that the MP tips are in fact the same outside diameter as the standard 40i ones (80mm) but they have a larger internal diameter and square cut edge so do look bigger overall.

If you need one make sure it will also cut stainless steel and check the wall thickness it will cut as some of the cheap ones will only cut thin mild steel pipes.

I found the one in the link was good and has a 'mole grip' mechanism so you can lock the grip, saves having to hold it under pressure like a pair of pliers.
