I like this WAYYYYYYYYYYYY more than the e90. If i am looking for a sedan this would be it. Great pictures. You can really see the shape.

I think the shape is promising and, well, interior is built using preprod parts. They have a tendency to improve their interiors, so im confident it will be better then current. I wish they dont fuck up with the exterior details like they did with f20. Hope this will look NOT like it is in the latest renderings.

What about F31? It is not even mentioned in first post (part where schedule is).
I'd like to see some spyshots of it too.
I'm willing to wait, if it is worth waiting for...

What he said!

Besides, i'll rate how good a car is by this analogy imo:
Real life view > marketing pics > normal pics > Spypics, that it!
You can not and should not base a car purchase on spypics alone, be it good or bad.

I think these pictures proves that the 3 series is prone to be more conservative and stylish, than the more youthfull, creative 1 series (F20).
So no need to worry, i remember how it was when E9* was in this phase, it didn't excatly got praised, everyone says, f*** this, i'm keeping my E46.
History repeats itself once again.

^Indeed, but I was hoping for a more F10 like interior.

And are those wheels 19", looks pretty big?

Good point. Let's also remember than the main reason an enthusiast buys a BMW is because no other car drives like it.

Frankly, the Alfa 159 is far better looking than a 335i, but is half the car dynamically.

Jag XF... so handsome you could swear it had a naked lady strapped to the roof.
The F10 is a better drivers car, but that XFR....
It has to be the best looking large saloon I have ever seen... next to the Rapide, of course.

Wonder what that switch is above the engine start button. Cutout for start / stop?

So true! Regardless of generation, for better or for worse, BMWs just look about a million times better in person than in photos. I remeber my opinion would turn 180degrees when I saw some of the ugliest ones in person. I try to take the spyphotos not on face value, but imagine the car in person with those extra detals and curves that dont quite come through in photos. F30 so far seems to be a smaller tighter F10 with sharper and more aggressive design lines

I like the overall shape. This car is BMW's bread and butter, so they can't afford to screw it up.

The interior will probably wind up being OK, nothing very exciting, although it seems the latest interior designs are becoming more japanese (whatever that means).

But 2 inches longer? The new 3 sedan is approaching the size of the E60!

I agree with this statement. The 3 series has become more evolutionary than revolutionary on purpose. It makes up a big chunk of BMW's sales worldwide, so they typically play it safe. Like the 911, you can look at the car and know what it is.

I hope it doesn't mean that the 3-series will have more buttons and doodads like their Japanese competitors. The plain, functional, but stylish interior is one of the reasons I abandoned the safe choice of a reliable Japanese car for a potentially higher-maintenance BMW. Plain = good.

This is unfortunate, as the E90 is just the right size in my book - not too large, but not too small. If you're too fat to fit in one, go to the gym or get on a bike (or both, like I do). I wish that they had kept the exterior dimensions the same, but increase the wheelbase and concentrated on reducing the weight, which is probably about 200 lbs. more than it should be. Take the money saved from stamping out larger body parts and spend it on lighter weight materials throughout the car.

The 3-series is considered a medium to large size car in Europe, as most folks drive around in Golfs or smaller vehicles and seem to fit just fine. If the car stayed the same size but with a larger wheelbase/interior and reduced weight, this would be more in line with BMW's mantra of 'efficient dynamics'.

Despite it's increase in size the new 1 series weighs less than the old model. If BMW can pull that trick on the F30, it would be cool.

You're the first person in a while I've seen say this. Everyone gets caught up with the high tech/busy interior in Audi's and Mercedes but BMW's interior, especially the 3-Series, is very plain and simple but it works beautifully and I hope they don't change. What I won't mind is maybe step up the materials a bit but in terms of buttons, leave it as it is.

i totally agree with this. never really liked Audi interiors because there's just too many buttons. from my point of view, high tech doesn't mean a lot of buttons, it means maximum functionality with minimum complexity...

Can somebody tell me what the story is with the "340i"?
Sounds very exciting but has this been confirmed?

Thanks

Sorry, fixed. The F30 with turbo 6-cyl motor will come out as a 335i. Whether it gets renamed to 340i at some point in the future is unknown, but definitely 335i at launch.

Based on these spyshots this may be the best looking 3 sedan so far (exterior).

So does anyone think BMW is going to pull off that one-year switch-a-roo they did with the last two 3-series ?

That is, the engine upgrades that we saw when the 323/328 became 325/330 with the e46s and the 325/330 got upped to 328/335 with the e90s? If I were in the market for a new 3er, I'd wait a year just to see ( not to mention, let bugs/issues get worked out ).
