New Car Day - Stormtrooper Lands!
After what seems like an eternity, collection day finally arrived today.
Model 3 Long Range in bog standard, out the wrapper trim and pearl white. The car was ordered by me back in March/April. However, it was delayed when the government removed the EV grant from more expensive vehicles, and my company temporarily removed Tesla from the CoCar list. After a couple of months (and me almost pulling the trigger on an A4 Black Edition in Turbo Blue), the Tesla re-appeared on the list and the order was resurrected. Delivery estimate was originally August from Tesla's website, but slipped to September (my fleet department are useless ). First impressions are good. No weird panel gaps, paint issues or other 'usual Tesla gripes'. Handover was very much hands off. There's your keys sir, come back and see me if you have any issues. There are a raft of pre-delivery tutorials to watch, so I'd kind of seen everything anyway. It's eerily quiet, and a very comfortable drive. Used a local public charger (cost £0.00) whilst having some lunch and a bit of shopping and added 25% battery in around an hour or so. I'm in the process of moving home, so a 7kW home charger will be installed in the new place to cover most charging. |

Lovely I really like that and have thought about one for a while.
Although a mate has one and it looks great in black with what look like white wheels but they’re actually silver. He’s had his for around 6 months or so and really likes it but is so frustrated with the charging times and range. It would be ideal for me as I only do no more than 25 miles a day usually but then I don’t need electric in that case! |

Congrats!
Give it the beans, then pull over and download the acceleration boost, then give it the beans again. Then tell us if it's any better

How much is this acceleration boost? I don't know why you wouldn't want it unless its stupidly expensive.
Sounds like its a warranted re-map from the manufacturer. Whats not to like.

That's a bargain over the Model 3 Performance. Been reading its like 10 grand more? Ok a bit quicker but that's a massive hike in price over the normal Model 3.

Exactly my thoughts. A 3.7 car for £49k that's loads faster than an F8X

It's been good so far. I've put around 70 miles on it since collection. One visit to the supercharger to top it up to 85%, and made use of another couple of local chargers to test out how things work mostly.
Total charging cost so far - £0.00 I've noticed that instead of spending money on a tank of diesel, I'm now spending money on Costa etc while the thing charges! The farts did keep my nieces and nephews amused, and Netflix is handy (it is the Dutch version though) |

But actually I still only pay 13p per kWh on E7 rates thanks to solar PV + home battery, so the fuel cost for the trip was 3.5p per mile. ] When we got to Cardiff last night there was already an ongoing discussion about where to find petrol for tomorrow as a few family members had long drives to make, am sure I heard someone mention getting up at 5 am??!! I just plugged in and went to chill on the sofa. Checking the App just now the car is fueled more than enough for the planned outing to the beach, and actually also realised on way down to Cardiff we passed x2 SC sites and there is actually one 5 minutes away from where we are now. Given the 'free for life' Supercharging on our car if I was a real cheapskate and didn't want to pay even 3.5p/mile for fuel I could do the whole 400 miles+ trip this weekend for £0! Refueling seems to be the one thing people have real worries about owning an EV, but the reality is once you own one for a while, the concept of having to visit a fuel station on a regular basis just seems mad. Home charging is probably one of the things I love most about EV ownership, that and the so easy to access performance. |
