Right. It has been confirmed by a number of BMW sources.

Indeed. It could very well be that the new I6 simply is not ready yet. And they certainly don't want to delay the 4 Series. So we may have to wait until next year or sometime after for the new engines to hit. But rest assured that they will arrive sooner than later and they will be bringing both more power and more efficiency.

Not until late this year. Internet reveal is early summer, auto show reveal will be late summer.

Just curious, I'm hearing two dates, one reveal and the other release, what are the chances seeing an early summer release?

If it really is the all knowing oracle (pun intended for you IT folks) we are hoping it should be able to show us the truth. Again, that is, assuming you are not pulling our legs here, or perhaps suggesting that that engine is underrated by BMW.
Yes, I was serious about that 480 HP number. I don't know when the car will come out... but it was in a 5GT 550i that I saw it in.

That is true; all those others have introduced their cars with carryover engines. I noticed the same thing.

Actually, introducing a new platform with an old engine is standard for BMW - but a new 3 coupe usually rolls out about 18 months after BMW introduced the platform with the 3 sedan - and in the past the coupe has had a new engine.

I'm seeing 0-60 test results in the high 4s for the 335i; it probably doesn't need a new engine. I did expect one, though.

Edit: So I just realized I got my signals crossed. We were originally talking F32 and somehow I got stuck in F80 mode. So disregard everything below. I'll leave it though in case anyone wants to know my opinions on the new M3 launch.

None in my opinion.

They are going to want to wait until the current M3 has fully run its course before introducing the new one so as not to completely confuse with the "M3 = sedan only now" situation. In other words I expect them to completely relaunch the M3 brand, with heavy emphasis on it now being a world class sport sedan. They may even bring up the fact that the early generation 3 Series models (and thus the original M3 too) were referred to as sedans despite having only two doors. BMW likes to bring heritage into their product launches and that would sure tie things nicely in a bow. Though I am sure there will be some grumpy folks who cry foul at such a spin. Anyway, like I say, they'll want to be well clear of the "legacy" (and it will leave quite the legacy to be sure) M3 before they start the ball rolling on all of this.

Come to think of it, now that I run through this in my head, my dates might be too aggressive. What I'd say is that pictures of the M3 concept, assuming there will be one as expected, will probably creep out this summer. I don't know about official specs. And, we still don't know how long the E93 M3 will be in production for that matter. Though traditionally, if I am not mistaken it has basically bowed out when the coupe has. Once that is wrapped, the gates for the new generation could start to open at any time.

Let me put it this way - I would not expect to see the first owners in the US post pics of their cars in the driveway until October.

Thanks your reply, I was referring to the availability of the F32 and if that's what you're referring then it is early fall 2013... if not when?

Yes but you are talking about a 440i..

Being it means a more powerful engine, the 335i is a turbo 6 and the m3 is a turbo 6 ( more power of course).. The 440i makes no sense.

So let me see you are mad at BMW instead of your self

So when BMW offered a world class high revving formula one style V8 in 3 series that you are so in love with. You choose to spend your money on a regular ol 3 series model with base inline-6 engine that is more about fuel economy, practicality then out right performance.

Now when BMW is trying to satisfy buyers like you who pick cheaper 200hp inline-6's over 400hp V8's with their hard earned money. You are mad at them.

In car business money talks bull shit walks pal.......next time if you are so in love with some thing.....then support it by spending your hard earned money on it and not your words. As they say talk is cheap.

I am sorry if I came across as a bit harsh but your logic is just unbelievable.......

Basically BMW screwed me... Now for my next car, imma be driving an outdated E92 model OR simply something other than a BMW.. it really sucks to be honnest...

I dont recall seeing this discussed but the V8 from M3 was only around for a few years, why wouldnt BMW continue to use it in some vehicle in their lineup, even if it was a special model? Seems like a lot of $$$ went in to developing it only to get minimal return, unlike the N55 which is used in volume selling models.

I have to apologize, but I honestly cannot piece together anything meaningful from what you wrote. I am trying to see your point, if there is one, but there's so many scattered thoughts brought up below, it amounts to nothing coherent from my perspective.

Can you clarify what you mean?

Or, does anyone else understand, and if so, can you interpret?

I will say that there is already a 640i so a 440i should not be a mysterious notion. Also you are incorrect in your assessment of the 335is.

Finally, I note that you did not appear to address my statement about the previous e90 335i intro vs. the existing e90 330i sedan at the time. Did you not make the connection between that and your original question?

it seems some people expect an M engine in a non-M car, when did this happen?

or do people want the 550i/650i engine, that engine is only mediocre anyway, the 35i engine is the real breadwinner, even if it is 4-6 years old
