I hadn't had my letter but when I went for a headlight adjustment due to ACS lowering Barons said if they took the car in they'd be obligated to address it. So booked me in within a week. It was replaced twice! There were some faulty ones in the initial recall. The replacement ones even caught alight.

All that time I was driving around in what felt like world's fastest production diesel... and just forgot about it. When my wife opened the recall letter though she was very upset. Thankfully it had been resolved.

I worked in a dealership in 2000-2004 whilst there was the problem with turbos on 4 cylinder diesels and to a lesser extent, 6 cylinder diesels.

Some of the first cars affected had 3-4 turbos and sometimes exhaust systems replaced where the replacements we fitted were still faulty. Didn't go down well, especially when they went onto worldwide back order!

Bringing this back to the surface.

Had the EGR recall completed on my 435D F36, they replaced the whole unit and a "Pipe" they didn't care to elaborate which one though. Collected the car Tuesday this week and it seems to be running hot as the fans come on after a steady 5 mile drive, also the engine smells hot.

I'm thinking it's either a regen or the coolant needs burping - any thoughts?

330d F30 EGR cooler recall 8/2022

Morning all,
Just wanted to post to inform you all if you didn't already know there are outstanding vehicle recalls for the F30 check on the dvla website under check MOT to find out if your vehicle is affected.
Dropped mine to Fairfield BMW on Tuesday they replaced the cooler and my inlet mainfold all under this recall.
For a main stealer the service was really good and I got a new 2 series m-sport as loan car I'm sure they do this so you buy a new car 🤣🤣

Apparently the one that was back in 2019 was to replace affected parts with a replacement. But it was the same part so would inevitably fail again. This time the recall replaces it with parts with a new design so it fixes it once and for all.

Or at least, that's what I was told. The EGR valve and cooler fitted this time is definitely a different part and it clearly looks different. But what I don't understand is why all cars weren't affected. For example, my wife's X3 and my 320D both have an N47 engine, but her car is 1 and a half years older than mine and has never had an EGR recall. I can't explain why the part that was used in 2013 was apparently solid and is deemed reliable, whereas the part replaced in my car in 2019 is supposedly unreliable. If the 2013 part was fine why did they not switch back to that design if they knew back in 2019 that the parts would have to be replaced again later on?

I have a Mini Cooper SD which I believe shares the same engine and have had the same recall, also got the same one back in 2019.

Unsure what will happen as the car currently has faults mentioning air flow in relation to the EGR, not sure if these are directly related to the cooler but it all revolves around these parts.

My local mechanic said it's worth going to BMW first with the codes it is currently throwing as BMW have been known to replace a bunch of parts on these recalls.

Reading this thread it seems he isn't too far from the truth.

Just a warning to folks - a ham-fisted mechanic broke my engine cover doing my EGR cooler. Thankfully the mechanic/dealer owned up but it took weeks to get a replacement as it seems there are many breakages with these EGR cooler upgrades!!

They didn't actually tell me at first despite ordering a replacement. The first i knew was a very feint buzzing noise. Thankfully i caught it before the thing rubbed its way through my inlet pipe (it managed to get a good 1mm through) :/

Such a headache these EGR's! Nothing but problems. These engines are much happier without.

I got my 2014 plate 330D booked in for the second recall. Booked in December time as I need a loan car for the day whilst it is in.

Hope I don't lose the remap and all of the custom coding options my car currently has.

I had my done, and it hasn't been the same since. Been in and out a few times, now they're telling me I need a new inlet manifold, and they want £1000+ to replace it! I believe they change the inlet manifold as part of the recall...so this is interesting to read. Can I ask what year your BMW is please?

The second time mine was recalled they replaced the inlet manifold with the EGR for free.

It's been recalled again, third time lucky?
