As you may already have seen, a member recently took delivery of his 2012 328i (F30) sedan and wasted no time in getting it strapped to the dyno. The 2012 328i sedan is powered by the twinpower twin-scroll turbo 4-cylinder inline "N20" engine, factory rated at 240hp / 255lb-ft torque.

This F30 328i was tested on EAS (European Auto Source)'s Dynojet 224xLC and put down an impressive 226hp / 230lb-ft torque (at the wheels), with just 91 octane gasoline.

What does this equal to at the crank (for comparison to BMW's factory quoted power figures for the 2012 328i)? Assuming a 15-17% drivetrain loss, this dyno result translates to approximately 265-272hp / 270-277lb-ft torque at the crank, or +25-32hp and +15-22lb-ft torque more than the factory figures!

Is the engine capable of more power, and how much more? Kelleners has already come in with an N20 tune which they say achieves 294 hp and 310 lb-ft torque (420 Nm), a +49 hp and +52 lb-ft gain over factory quoted figures.

Catch the video of the dyno run below:

That is awesome!!! I think the 328i is going to impress and going to sell like crazy. Maneuverability, power(kellners :0), mpg, etc. Will be a great car.

Now that's what I wanted to hear! Way to go BMW! Has anyone dynoed the engine in a Z4 or 528 and gotten similar results?

I think there needs to be more dyno runs across the states to confirm something like this, 1 car on 1 dyno doesn't say much.

But am I correct when I read 91 octane fuel during the dyno test? Surely you do better than that?!

Tomorrow is the official retailer premiere of the F30 here in Sweden and I'm going there with bells on...

This is going to be a fun motor to tune!

Could you post up SAE results?

Good work EAS!

You can't count on endless dynos for years to come.

This was also done on Cali 91 craptane.

Still hate some parts of the redesign, but the engine is a marvel. Really impressed with it when I drove an F10, and can only imagine how well a tune will help in the numbers. Here's hoping they got the EPS right this go along, and kept some of the "on rails" feeling of the suspension.
And yes, the F30 will set all-time sales figures.

A dynojet doesn't comfirm anything.

Put it on an engine dyno if you want real conformation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, (I know someone will.... ) but doesn't BMW underrate the turbo engines due to possible output variations in different elevations ?

Shouldn't it be almost identical to the 135i and 335i running the N55?
