Of the thousands of cars I’ve driven the only Sierra that stood out to me was a Sapphire Cosworth but I’d drive round in the one I posted every day of the week, an old cavalier nah. |

I had an 81 Cavalier which was a proper lemon. It had an "automatic choke" which probably seemed like a good idea but sadly never actually worked.
Ditched it for a company Sapphire which was like swapping a horse and cart for a spaceship. |

I had a 78 Cavalier, mk 1 which was good as far as it was supposed to go. My dad had a 1983 Cavalier CDi 1.8, and it was fab compared to all that went before it.
Next door neighbour had a new Cortina /Capri / Sapphire from 1975 to 1985 every two years, none were a patch on the Cavalier... Ford were backwards until they brought out the Mondeo and Focus... |

Good we can all be different.... I should confess to having a Nova SR over an XR2, an Astra GTE 16v over an RS Turbo, and a Cavalier GSi above a BMW until it got nicked after about 4 weeks! |

Plus Vauxhall didn’t have a direct competitor at the time the Cosworth came out, Ford were ahead. |

Lotus Carlton? Much rarer, lower numbers than Cossie. But agreed, Ford did the specialist car better and always has..... Only Fords I ever wanted were an RS2000 mk2, a Sapphire Cossie and an Escort Cossie. But in everyday affordable stuff, I was a Vauxhall man. Guess it came down in the genes, my dad had a new VX when I was born, and my brother was a VX mechanic.... But I did have a nice Fiesta a few years ago.... |

Brings back the memories , ran an `87 Sierra 2.0 GLSi for a few years and loved it . Replaced it with a `92 SRi Cavalier which was a better car in every way , especially the interior with the Recaro look-a-like seats.

That takes me back! When I left the motor trade and had to buy my own car I had a Sierra 2.0 Ghia Manual Estate which did the job nicely. Drove it until it died. The trader I bought it from also had a Granada 2.8i Ghia Estate which was sorely tempting but the nylon cambelts on the V6 used to snap fairly easily, so common sense won the day.

I was clearly lucky with my first car, a mk 1 Cavalier - wanted a sports hatch but couldnt afford one so 1.6GL with a sports hatch front spoiler! Bought for £1200, sold 35k miles later for £450..... still the least depreciating car I have ever owned!
