My 2016 435 xDrive had very "notchy" firm/soft/firm/soft non-linear steering (I know...). I've since driven 2 other 435s and and many other BMWs and they feel like they should.
So I took it to my local BMW dealership and they said because it has M3 wheels and tires they won't look at it even if it is under warranty. So I took it to another BMW dealership and the SAn introduced me to the assistant shop Forman who noticed it didn't feel quite right so they upgraded the software and returned the car to me. After 30 seconds I realized it wasn't fixed. So I took it back, this time the shop Forman went on a ride we mr and noticed the steering didn't feel as it should, so he recommend the replace the rack. Rack was replaced and the car drove as it should for a few hundred miles and then went back to how it was previously and now I'm getting this sound.... The BMW NA rep from corporate took the car for a ride and said everything was within an acceptable range. I'm now dealing with the service manager and he said he's going to reach out to the BMW NA rep to see what can be done. Any suggestions/recommendations would be much appreciated.

Just be polite and patient I'm hopeful they'll fix it for you. That does not sound normal at all. The video is pretty self-explanatory and if it worked fine a few hundred miles ago and they replaced it hopefully they'll fix it.
That said, if it was under warranty ( I've been there before) they would say that's perfectly normal. |

What are the tyres sitting on in the vid? Sounds like the typical tyre squelch you get when turning the wheel when stationary?

Mine makes a similar noise for a short while when very cold and maneuvering slowly. Once I'm up the street the noise goes away.
I NEVER haul on the wheel without the car rolling, it sends my mechanical sympathy alarms into overdrive. Besides, I learned to drive in an era where most cars didn't have power steering. |

Mine car is making that noise all the time. The ground was wet so a little less friction, but I agree, I rarely crank on my steering while stationary.
