N26 Dinatronics Sport Tuner Review

Hey all,

Still relatively new here but I installed my Sport Tuner the other day and I have to say im very impressed. I was thinking ok, I should get a bit of boost in power but nothing drastic. However the torque bump is addicting, butt dyno tells me the dyno curve doesnt lie and most of the power to be had is down low. This is where you spend 98% of your driving anyway so its loads of fun.

Install quoted 5 min. If you actually take 5 min. to install this you are overthinking it. Its insanely easy, use a flat head screw driver to pop the sensor off and plug the new ones in. I zip tied the module up and behind the wire loom so its almost impossible to see.

Overall for the price, its a no brainer.

Ill keep this updated if I have any other impressions or issues.

I just installed mine this afternoon. So I haven't spent a lot of time with it yet but I will have to agree that its worth every penny. It took me longer to figure out how to get the sensor unplugged than actually install it.

Installation/removal was one of the main reasons I went the Sport Tuner than Stage 1. Compatible with multiple engines, making resell amazingly possible.

I do have some questions for any owners out there...
- Are you staying in Sport+? I intend to keep it in Race as I have plenty of 93 around me and I don't plan on punishing the car.
- On the app boost gauge, is that a representing the stock boost, then +4? IE, 15 PSI on the gauge is really getting 19 PSI? My understanding is stock boost is around 15-16, with 93 octane tunes maxing out around 19 PSI?
- Will the iDrive Sports Display reflect gains or is it more or less static to the car's power band? I've seen mixed responses on this...

I have one on my N20 228i. I had it in Sport+ until the iOS app came out and I could change it to Race. Even on California 91, Race is fine. No hesitations that I can feel.

I haven't even looked at the I drive displays, but as far as I understand it they wont show the new power or boost. The app has a gauge but I don't really use it because I cant stare at my phone and drive. I currently have it on race mode with 92 octane WA gas. No issues. If I experience any ill probably switch back to sport+

I just installed the unit and these are my opinions:

Installation is very easy comparing this to JB4 and Racechip. Open the hood, close doors and lock car. Wait at least 5 mins to discharge everything, remove sensor and plug Dinan unit.

Run the car for 75 miles in comfort, sport and sport+. The unit make great use of the torque in all settings between 2K and 4.5K rpm. In the highway if you press the pedal at 60 Mph you can feel the car pulling harder (very good at 3K rpm) in sport mode. No hesitation of engine for now (running 93 Oct in stock setting) . The torque pro app is reading 20 psi and torque is up to 300 from 246. High value was 316. HP still in the 225-230 reading.

I did have BMS Stage1, JB4 and Racechip and I can tell you that power is very good here for the $ so recommended. Feels similar to BMS Stage1 but with more torque sooner (more usable for daily use). Also everything else feels stock (no abrupt shifting or jerkyness). BMS Stage 1 feels with more HP and punchy at high RPM.

Later on will post more reading from torque pro.

Could you compare the pros and cons with the BMS Stage 1 vs the Dinantronics Sport? I am between the two and I am leaning toward the Dinantronics Aport or JB+ due to the ease of installation/removal. Do you miss the extra HP from the Stage 1? The Dyno graphs that BMS puts out actually have the JB+ with a tad more torque. I would imagine that the Dinantronics Sport is the same considering they are boost controllers.

Thoughts?

With BMS you feel more power at high rpn and torque is later on the rpm.
To increase boost you need the cable and laptop. Installation uses more cables and you must hide casing or buy the waterproof one.

DInantronics use the torque in the low rpms and feels stronger (more pull down the rpms). To increase or decrease power you use your android phone. The valet mode is nice to have just in case. Installation is just one cable and casing seems more resistant.

Some people here reports jerkyness on the transmission when using BMS in sport or sport+. It happens to my car sometimes. None happens with the Dinan yet.

Also when i installed the BMS stage1 with 93 Oct i did 13.6 - 13.7 with no other mods.

Just my opinion.

Great feedback and very helpful. Have you run the 1/4 with the Dinantronics yet? How did it compare?

So if I'm reading the screen cap right, it put out 261.3hp and 293.8lbtq with boost maxing out at 21.6lbs?

Add around 15 to 16% to those values and you will have estimated hp and torque values.

Does it boost all the time, or only after the car is up to operating temperature?
