Jack and Jack Stands

Hey all, is there any low profile jack and jack stands you guys could recommend to buy from a Canadian source? Also, should I be looking for 3 ton, or is a lower one okay? Do I need 4 jack stands in case I want to do work myself like swapping the downpipe or exhaust?

If you want a proper stand IMO this is the best for BMWs and works perfectly with the jack pads, it's very expensive though - https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00...A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB

Can't tell you the price but you can get it from Prema Canada as well(www.premacanada.com), just scroll all the way to the bottom left and type in your Postal Code, it will find the nearest dealer and provide you with a number to call. Just call and order, they will deliver.

As for jack stands, sorry can't help you there. I made wooden ramps and using a cheap one at work that was left behind by a coworker. I've been holding back looking for a good one as well.

The F30's weight about 3600 lbs, 2 tons is 4000 lbs. You don't need a jack/jack stand rated for the entire vehicle as you're only supporting the weight of a corner/half of the car but having a bigger one will definitely help you feel better working under the car lol. Just leave the jack under the car when you're using the jackstands as a safety measure or just stick a wheel under your side skirt

Check princess auto, they will have sale on their 3-ton low profile. Mind's going on 10 years.

Costco also has one that tends to go on sale a couple times a year.

I got one from Costco. Used this year to switch tires on 2 of my cars.
No problems at all. Don't have any jack stands though.

Thanks! I will eventually be lowering it a bit so I need a low profile one. I'll check it out next time I'm in Costco!

I bought this jack for my lowered S13 (240SX) on coilovers back in 2011; it goes down to 3.5" which is hard to find on other jacks; I still use it to date with the BMS jack pad on my F30 which isn't lowered but is RWD so it's low enough.

I also use it on my mom's 2015 VW Tuareg (corners) and other smaller vehicles so capacity isn't issue IMO. My only complaint is the rubber padding on the jack pad sheered off a while back; other than that it's been really reliable with zero maintenance.

Jack (I have the older version though)

1.5 tons is 3,000 lb. It's more than enough to lift even half the car.

Only need 1, use it one corner at a time.

This picture should give you an idea how it works... you have one of the plastic pieces at each jacking point under the rockers of your car (2 on each side). The BMS jack pad adaptor fits in it so your jack has a flat surface to lift from.

You lift a corner/side and place jack stand(s) then move on to the next corner/side.

Yeah, if you want to lift all 4 corners you'll need 4 pads... However, I just made mines out of 97¢ hockey pucks and a hack saw lol. Didn't think it was that easy to cut the pucks but you can simply hold them under a vise and just hack saw away. I had time and a case of pucks.

But don't you need an adapter in each jack stand? I wish I could swing $1300 for all that.. Lol

You're right - if you plan on putting your car on 4 stands; 4 jack pad adapters would be ideal. I personally use 1 adapter with the jack for 1 corner at a time.

This is a good video if you plan on putting your car on 4 stands...

Just checked, prema sells the esco stands @ $120 for a pair, you can make the pads yourself.

Yup I've seen it, which is why I was thinking you need 4. You can see he has one in each jack stand.
