Car&Driver Feb Edition: A5 Sportback vs 430i xDrive vs Kia Stinger

Did BMW really just get in a tie with a Kia?

The stinger isn't really a luxury sedan like those two but it's interesting to see how it stacks up.

I know. Still isn't a luxury sedan though? Haha I'm guessing that's why it blew them out of the water for the price section with 15/14/20

I really wanted to like the new Kia Stinger but there's something about the styling, fit and finish and "overall package" that just doesn't "draw me in". I look at my car every morning and smile after admiring it's appearance yet every single time I see a stinger, I soon forget. I can see it being competitive in this segment but I'm just not feeling the whole package and would EASILY lean towards the Audi or maybe even MB. (personally, I like the Alfa) To each his own and at least there's more competition!

I was driving a completely different brand a few years back and the car was totaled in an accident. The insurance company put me in a BMW after a lot of crap. Three weeks later, my previous car loan balance was a wash so I went to the BMW dealer to buy. During those weeks, I had checked everything out and since the new A4 wasn't out, it was either the BMW or MB. I went with the Bimmer hands-down because I fell in love with the damn rental car I was driving those three weeks or so. (had to be an M-Sport to boot) Only car I've rented that sold itself man and it's almost hard to believe three years ago, I did not like German cars but was also ignorant and stupid!

I've wanted a BMW since the e36 but for some reason always backed out. Maybe it was the reliability stigma that came with them so I always stuck with Nissans. I finally gave in and drove several German automakers and decided it was meant to be.

It must have been! I drove three Nissans in a row myself and after walking, I still liked the brand, just wanted something different. Then it was 5 Cadillacs and a mess of different issues and BS so I hit "rock bottom" with reliability as a whole at that point LOL! The Lexus was and still is just too damn boring for me which steered me towards the German brands. Was meant to be brother

From the pix I've seen, I like the Genesis G70 better; but I like the hatchback of the Stinger.

The only thing that seems to slap me in the face in the back/side are those horrible reflectors. When I first saw the car, it was in red so I didn't even notice them but once I saw them on different colors, I just couldn't take it haha. The G70 has much better styling both inside and out IMO. I'll admit they're both really stepping up their game.

To clarify did the BMW "tie" the four or six cylinder Kia stinger?.

6 cylinder. The comparison was between AWD vehicles with hatchbacks. Thus an F36 xDrive.

BMW was at a disadvantage from the start. It’s the only one at the end of its life cycle. They hated the steering and weight. Loved the engine.

the Stinger GT Limited is $49,995 in Canada...

Cheaper than a loaded AWD GT in the U.S.! I'm not sure why Kia is doing this, but I would definitely have taken a look if the car had landed before I bought my Audi S5 Sportback. Having said that the Stinger is larger and heavier than I'd like and like the BMW is a RWD platform with AWD added on. The aging F3x platform is just no competition for the new Audi in xDrive.

How the fuck does the A5 out-perform the BMW? I drove it last month, I was dulled into a boring existence while driving. It absolutely felt heavier and slower.

At least a 330i is faster than a 2.0T AWD Stinger: https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...-driver-page-4 .

I take car mag reviews with a grain of salt. It has been totally en vogue to bash BMW, with the F30 leading the pack as the seemingly worse car ever if you listen to what C&D, Motortrend and the like have to say. I don't know if this is because Audi's publicity team is juicing up these publications or what but basically Audi is now the best car maker in the world if you listen to these guys. The last Audi I drove was a 2016 A5. Talk about numb. Good god. Definitely a nice place to be and more luxurious than any BMW Ive been in recent years but an insanely disconnected driving experience. Light steering, like a sound reinforced tomb or a studio recording booth inside, but not fun to drive by any stretch, and this one even had a 6 speed. I also drove an S4, but it was a CPO 2015.. Who knows, again, car magazines trash BMW now. Thats what they do. Unless its the M235i or something. THat is the "ONE TRUE BIMMER", which is easy to say because they know for every 10000 3, 4 or 5 series BMW sells, they'll sell like 5 M235i, so those can be the golden unicorn for the magazines.

Its all horseshit.
