F30 335i M Sport Required Upgrades for HPDE Events
Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a 2014 335i M Sport and I'm looking to get into some track days at Sebring and want to know what suspension and brake upgrades I should be looking at to enjoy my time on the track. I just installed Michelin PS4's and have the OEM M sport brakes and suspension (non-adaptive to my knowledge). Also I have an 8AT, does anyone track their auto F30? Any issues with overheating/heatsoak? I have an AA intercooler that is going on before any track time along with CP and DP and Stage 2 tune. I should add that I have some track days under my belt in my previous cars: E92 335i (Sebring, Summit Point) and 981 Cayman S (Roebling Rd) but not a pro by any means. Thanks for the guidance.

High-temp brake fluid should be all you need, you already got good tires. The 335i is quite capable. If you fade the brakes then the next upgrade would be pads, but OEM pads should hold up fine. GL!

+1 on the brake fluid. I'm a big fan of the Motive bleeders, they work incredibly well.
Have fun and stay hydrated Post up some pics/vids afterwards

What brake fluid would you recommend and should I go ahead and install stainless steel lines at the same time?

It's not like your car won't work on-track with the standard BMW brake fluid. It just won't have the temperature threshold; the limitations of the brakes wouldn't be as high. E.g. you might have to take a cool-down lap now and then to let the brakes cool off. Charles

I used mostly Motul 660 fluid on my old E90 M3 for CCA HPDEs and worked well. Car always ran on Michelin PS2 or PSS, whichever was newest available at the time, and stock pads first, then PFC Z-rated pads after that. I've not tracked my F30 340i/6MT. Have fun!

Bumping an old thread here but I’ve since installed a set of coilovers and looking to swap out my brake fluid. Does anyone know how much brake fluid is needed to flush the full system? Also any recommendations on bleeder systems to make the job easy? Thinking about picking this up https://www.ecstuning.com/b-schwaben.../007237sch01a/

I bought whatever the best pads and rotors are from BMW and they worked extremely well. No brake fade at all at Road America.
Expensive though. I wouldn't bother switching if you have some pad left though |

So I finally got around to doing a track day at Sebring this past weekend. For prep I flushed the fluid with fresh RBF600 and took the PS4S tires down to 30 psi. I also installed the BMS oil cooler valve.
The car held up great and the suspension was awesome. I ran in Sport + with the bootmod3 Stg 2 93 octane tune and never ran into overheating issues in 78 degree weather. I did get some brake fade eventually (running stock M sport pads). I did have a little bit of a hard time with the throttle modulation as the tune makes the pedal very sensitive to input. For my next track day I'd like to swap brake pads. What pads should I run and should I swap the rotors as well (40k on them now) along with SS brake lines? Also has anyone installed F/R sway bars? Thanks for the advice. Definitely more of these in my future.

ive gotta dinan sway bars in my car...pricey but they work well and they are 3-way adjustable. I autox a 2013 335xi 6MT and these bars are very well balanced...
I have heard some other after market bars breaking the front mounts on the shock towers because they are too stiff...something to watch for. if you've got the electronic damping setup, there might be a tune for your car...i would explore this option before changing the bars which require dropping the subframes (both front and rear) |

I'm running bc racing coilovers with swift springs. I wanted to preserve the factory motion frequency (flat ride) but take away some of the roll for better reaction time so I've got 7kg/mm (392lbs/in) springs up front and and 20kg/mm (1120lbs/in) springs in the back... Ive got camber plates too which gets me around -2.9 deg of camber...that's not enough for national level autox competitions so trying to find more. I am going to eventually get my shocks revalved to improve the compression and rebound characteristics. Last edited by brigade24; 03-27-2019 at 09:12 PM.. Reason: correcting an error |

My next step was going to be sway bars, but unfortunately I had alot of maintenance to catch up on, I was looking to get the hotchkis sway bar set. P.S: Follow the yellow around the track and that's the track, it's pretty small, but it'll test your brakes.

the swift springs used by BC racing have a custom ID of 62mm. Anyone can easily procure 60mm or 65mm, but 62mm? a bit more challenging. And of course, since this is a custom bc swift spring...they come with a custom bc price! And I was like...nope. FWIW, the Swift springs are Superior in every way. They don't sag and the resulting ride quality is excellent...I just could not justify paying the premium for the I.D. Last edited by brigade24; 03-29-2019 at 11:59 AM.. Reason: minor corrections |
