Haha, I should have said all edges. Not the side facing rotor.

I ordered Power Stop Z23-1656 rear pads since they were cheap enough to take the risk. I'll post here once I get them installed. I have read that they behave similar to OEM, but I don't think they handle as much abuse.

The only difference between M-Sport and M-Perf brakes are that the rotors are drilled and slotted. Everything else is the same size, etc.

Hmm, I hope that would help.

What I noticed last weekend was that the noise was totally gone by just replacing the front pads. It seems like the old pads for rear were not the ones that made noise.

I ended up replaced the rear anyway as the old pads only had ~3mm left.

Is the difference between M-Sport and M-Perf brakes are that the rotors are drilled and slotted only?

if yes, can we buy the M-Perf rotors and install to M-Sport brake?

It is a little confusing. This link talk about the difference for 335i. May be helpful to you:

I used that article when I started on my brake pad hunt, and had even sent it to other vendors so they know.

That said, I installed the Z26 Powerstop brake pads last night. The fit was spot on (man the rears were tight though) and I am so far very happy. For what its worth, I have the M-Performance brakes, and the two part numbers I had are
front: Z261656
rear: Z261609B

Right fit - check
Quiet - check
Low dust - will confirm in a few days

I guess we were both doing the same thing last night. I installed the Power Stop Z23-1656 pads on the rear last night and bedded them. I really love how easy the M-Sport brakes are to change pads. It took me like 25 minutes to do both sides (now that I know which pin punch to use).

I have to say driving into work this morning had me feeling great. Instead of sounding like a runaway NY subway car making an emergency stop, it was pure silence at every stop light and stop sign. I think the silence was more satisfying than adding the JB4. Finally.

So far I can't tell any difference in performance. Initial bite seems the same, but the fronts are still OEM so it is really hard to judge how the rear pads affect stopping.

Yes, yes you can. 2piston Brembos (msport and mperformance) for the F3x and F8x (stock) all use the same exact caliper , so pads are interchangeable.

The rotor sizes vary due to the carrier, some like to call them "ears", built into the caliper. 4Cyl F3x msport used 340mm up front, while 6cyl F3x uses 370mm. F8x stock uses 380mm with the same caliper and carrier length, but mounted at an offset, from the center of the axel, on the upright, to fit 380mm rotors up front.

Yup, the silence is very satisfying!

I changed both front and back and don't think the stopping power is worse than old pads for stop and go daily driving. I actually love the ability to smoothly come to a stop instead of the jerk stop that happened quite often before.

Drove for a week and so far wheels still look clean.

Cool! I hope you will be happy with the dust. My wheels still look clean after a week.

cheers to another mountain person doing brakes on an F30 (i'm in in MT)

A couple of notes:
1. My rear pads were SNUGGGGG. I mean I compressed the pistons very far and still had to work to get them in.
2. Love the hot swap of pads out of the backs of the calipers.

My brakes are sinnngggging again. The lube/anti-squeal stuff I used + my ability to apply it appropriately must not be up to the job. I picked up a different anti-squeal and will take another crack at it over the next few days.

So at least there is no brake dust on my wheels when everyone stares at the car due to the incredibly loud squeal

Hmm, mine are still quite. I used this one:

Which one did you use?

It was a generic from NAPA. I grabbed some CRC brake-quiet paste locally, will try that next. The stuff you posted looks great too.

Curious, how has the performance been on these? Do they match up with the original stock M perf/sport pads? Haven't pulled the trigger as I re-did the cleaning and applying of lube and so far been good for a 2 weeks, but did hear some minor squeaking last night so might just pull the trigger and buy them.

I only done normal stop and go so far. Stop and go driving is fine. Never once missing the old pads. I actually thought my old pads stopped too abruptly when slowly come to a stop. I like the new one better with smoother stop. Have not done any emergency stop from high speed, so that part don't know.

I have found that the rear pads I just installed (see post above) are twice as loud when wet and cold as the OEM pads I took off. After the first stop or two they go silent again. My OEM pads were rarely silent (and I did use plenty of the permatex ceramic lube). I don't think the lube is going to make a difference.

Interesting, mine do not make any noise so far for 3 weeks. Oregon weather was wet and cold for a while too.

I wonder what could be the difference....

I did spend some time using brake cleaner and lots of paper towels to clean up the calipers contact area before I lube the calipers, the pins, the retaining plates, and pads. I am assuming you did the same....

I switched out my factory ones with Cool Carbon Pads on my Blue calipers. No noise and a lot less dust.
