Is there a way to know if a car followed break-in process?
When shopping for "new" cars in the lot of a dealership, I constantly have the idea that people trying them out will not respect the break-in period requirement, and as a consequence, that "new" car will inevitably come with a shorter expected lifetime.
So, is there a way to know if a car has been "abused"? For example: is there a way to know if a car has ever gone above 4500RPM or 100mph? The break-in period is generally not going over those numbers for the first 1200miles. Thanks |

I think you should limit the answers to actually answering the question instead of trying to guess what I'm going to do with the information. And FYI, I bought new, European Delivery. Newer than that would be impossible. That is not a problem.

When I buy new, I either order it new or get it off the truck as it's delivered into the dealer's lot before they can do anything to it. My last car that I bought before the bmw, was being taken off the truck and stuck in the back lot waiting to get prepped. I asked the salesman to let me test drive that one. It only had 14 miles on it. Could it have been abused? sure, but I know it wasn't abused too much. this way it also lets me tell them not to screw holes into the front bumper to put a plate holder on (Ohio finally got rid of the front plate requirement!!)
I'm going to do ed with my next bmw as well. Trying to convince the kids to go with me. I'm pretty sure if the "new" car on the lot has a few hundred miles, it's probably been abused by test drivers. |
